Three main events > one main event. That is all.
3x15 minutes plus 1 lap for the 450's and 3x12 min plus 1 lap for the 250's and i think we have a winner.
I only watched the main yesterday so didn’t have to watch the practice races and saved myself 2 hours.
In the normal 450SX format, the main event is 20-minutes + 2 laps. So fans are essentially getting to see the riders vying for championship points for a total of 25 minutes.
In the triple crown format, the 450 races are 8 minutes, 12 minutes, and 15 minutes, all plus one lap. So you're seeing them battle for championship points for nearly 40 minutes. Thus fans are getting a lot more minutes of actual racing, and from what I saw at the first triple crown, the racing seemed a lot more exciting.
At least in outdoor MX, you get to see the riders for at least an hour + 4 laps per event.
Let's compare other sports.
Length of games:
Baseball - 4 hours
Football - 1 hour
Basketball - 48 minutes
Hockey - 1 hour
SX - Roughly 25 minutes
Triple Crown - >35 minutes

Count the heats and lcq's to your numbers, and your skewed numbers aren't the same. Unless you're a fanboi that only cares about a few factory racers. Personally I like to see the Ronnie Stewarts and Kyle Chisolm's of the world race too, and they didn't show them at all at the Triple Crown, screw that format.

So you miss 45 minutes of straight commercials?
You can't confuse the schedule with the format though...
Yeah it was brutal hanging around but the 3 race format was more interesting if you JUST watched the races in replay. They just need to fix the timings and I think also make it 3x15 and 3x12 mins plus one lap.

Crash in 1st or 2nd and you get crappy overall and no one can figure out who the winner is

Agreed. I’ll watch 4 hours of commercials to see the best guys battle 3 times, rather than watch some triple digit barely making it through the whoops.
20 min. already too short for a 'pro'. Now, if they did 3 finals, at 25min. each, cool. Any 'main' less than 20 min. is for the weekend warrior, not a money-making pro.
Short attention span society at its best!
20 minutes is tooooooo long for a race, however, 30-45 minutes of commercials and fluff pieces are SOOOOOO much better?
I’m confused
Don’t piss off the old people - the older they get the less “life in prison” is a deterrent for them!

I like it. But need longer races. I also like the mix between formats. I wouldn't want a change to triple crown format completely, the races are just too short. Like the podium 450 guys said at Glendale post race, A2 track was one lined and whoops were so neutered everyone went the same speed. Way too much bias to fast starter when track is one lined, easy, and race is short. Vince Friese FTW!!
