Haha, cool to see others with all of these stickers. We have a ton of all of these in our sticker box from all the years of my dad racing CMC.

We used to trade stickers back & forth amongst our friends. I worked at Fox & then Öhlins so I have a bunch of stickers from there. And then of course any time I bought new handlebars or whatever you would get a decal with it so... I have boxes & boxes of moto decals!

I need to dig up my old VHS footage and post to youtube from a late 80s Golden State race at Sandhill Ranch in Brentwood when they ran the track across damn near the entire property and Wardy, Kiedrowski and others were there and it felt almost like an AMA National. It's terrible footage shot by a 14 year old but it'd probably get a few views. Track was amazing back then.
Yes, great day that was. Donny Schmit on a Factory RM250, Goat Breker on his ‘87 CR500, etc. Tyson Vohland was not too happy with Goat’s line selection on the last lap! Smile

The time Payton bet Goat Breker he would't win the 500cc GSN Series overall. The bets were pretty funny.

A lot going on in this pic. Race-Tech suspended '88 KX250. Super plush, not even recognizable from stock. AXO boots, O"Neal pants, Rock Oil jersey, Fox Chest Pro/Gloves, Arai helmet, probably Smith goggle. Not sure what Lit kit means, but i'm guessing that don't qualify!

2nd time at Glen Helen. The road trips were as memorable as the actual races themselves! A lot of NorCal riders would make the trek down and there many many entries in the Amateur ranks too.

Imagine how the 125 pro class sounded on that track. Like a symphony.

I had a thread in Old School Moto about that 1988 Sandhill race. I was heading to the Oakland SX and had a Golden State yesteryear moment! Smile

When having my graphics guy remake some decals for my KX500 rear fender recently, I had to pay some homage to CMC!

When me and my buddy Wardy headed down to the GH mxgp a couple years ago , we met up with probably 15-20 vital guy's down there ( Thank Dwayne for putting that together!! ). And among that group were Preston Petty and Stu Peter's. I got to hang out , watch moto's , eat hot dog's and BS with those two guy's all day. Had a good long talk with Stu about racing the CMC golden state national's up this way at Albany MX when I raced those. I don't think Stu realized how awe struck I was to be bullshitting with him about all that. Was / is such a cool dude! Thank you Stu!

It's cool seeing those pics of Sand Hill. Heard stories from my dad about that place, so it's nice to see how cool it really looked! I wonder how many of you guys raced at CMC with my pops!

Is local moto dead?

We had a booming scene here in District 5 back in the late 90s and early 2000s.

We had to qualify for 125C back then.

Any chance of getting local moto back to where it was? Or have demographics and economics changed, leaving many unable or unwilling to participate?

Unaffordable for the average joe nowdays

all I know is that as an East Coast kid, this series/races were some of the coolest and competitve around. I always loved hearing about them.

Fun series. My last amateur series was the 1979 one. Best track that year was Dunlap, despite the rubber band start.

Cool!...that's me in 5th in the 250 class behind Gary Semics! I remember Goat and Wardy flew a helicopter to the last round at Santa Maria after racing a SX the night before. I believe Kawi paid them a huge bonus for winning the Golden State Series that year.

I remember you, you were fast.

I raced the Oakland sx and the Sandhill round the next day, didn't get a helicopter ride tho.

Great to see this.
Still Race with Duane Joice and Terry Bostard still rips plenty fast.

Those were fun times...I miss them. 84 was a great year right up until Saddleback closed...and yes, Terry is fast. I raced him about 4-5 years ago in the Vet Worlds at Glen Helen and again at a Mammoth qualifier at one of his local central cal tracks (I think he's from around there) and he made me feel like a beginner!...Same with Rodney Smith.
