I miss the Factory Pumpkins!

For sure, ever since KTM released their FE models, their bikes have become some of the most beautiful machines made. And I love the combo of orange and blue.

But, with that being said, I miss the days of the pumpkin look of the orange and black of the Factory KTM Racing team. Again, I love blue and orange but there is just something clean and striking of, for example, Grant Langston's 2004 Works 250SX machine. The orange and black goes great with the yellow and red of the Red Bull logo. Almost sun-ish color scheme. I also miss the predominant KTM logo on the shroud. Loved the orange/black look of the 03/04 KTM logo.

Anyway, trivial thought, I know but the pumpkin Factory KTM's were rad. Heck, I also dig the silver rims as well. GL's number 111 and 8 machine was just damn gorgeous!

Nice pics. Must be a true KTM fan.

The older I get, the faster I was. Posting without a cast on is fun!

I've been a KTM fan since, well, since not many people liked them. I'd say since GL's Champ KTM in 2000 in the GPs and that epic 2001 heartbreak in AMA Motocross on his Factory Red Bull KTM. Also loved the GL/Brownie and Rhyno/Brownie battles from 03. The 03 125SX was a rocket ship.

At the time they stood out and were unusual. Not anymore, though. Success has changed the uniqueness quite a bit though that's not necessarily a bad thing as they are among the elite now.

Heck, I even love Lance Smail's butterscotch KTM. Weird, I know. I just dig the brand. I am pumped on their success but I do miss the unique quality they had back in the day when they weren't so common.

Those sxs bikes were awesome! Better than the FE rubbish now.

And as for the 2004 factory SX125 of Tyla Rattray...HUBBA HUBBA!!! One of my top 5 sexiest bikes ever.

I did. Thank you. Havent seen a pic yet. I'm reaching out today.

For anyone out there...im looking a very clean 2003 KTM 250SX for.a KTM McGrath build. It's in the For Sale/Bazaar section on the forums.

I also wouldn't mind a 03 125SX if it's clean and mostly stock. Love those bikes. I'm in NC but could prob get Nick McCabe to ship if he's still willing to help if on West coast.

I should know this, being a KTM nerd, but can someone explain what the SXS models were?

The SXS models back in the day (in the 2000's) we're like the current FE models. Customers could buy KTM's with all the trick parts just like the factory team. The sxs models used to be really fast bikes and had a limited availability for the public.

The SXS bikes were really trick with better suspension, brakes, tuned engines and in some cases even different frames. The FE's are just stock bikes with some special graphics and anodized shit.

2003 SXS 250, If you want one of these you'll have to part ways with a bit of coin. This is the Supplement Parts this model comes with.

SXS versions where much more special than today's FE's. They where really close to real factory team bike's. SXS models where sold mostly to race teams only in Europe. The amount of produced SXS models was very limited and it's very difficult to find one today.

I had a 2002 125 SXS. The bike had DLC coated suspension (very rare at the time), 5 speed SXS gearbox, SXS cylinder, SXS ignition, SXS radiators, SXS seat, DOMA exhaust pipe and silencer, BUD-racing cylinder head, carbon fiber head stays, DUD u-shape rims, etc..

It is still the most powerful 125 that I have ever ridden. I wish I have never sold that bike

Same, flatout. I miss that look. Last year I almost bought an '03 125SX for that reason. Lucky me, I lost a car at the same time so the bike went to the back of my priority list. I still wish I could have bought that bike. It was a killer deal. $1,200 or something. Oh well. sad

Still have my old 1999 SX125 that was my racer for the 2yrs that I used to race before college and life and took over.. Never plan on selling it. Would be stoked to find a works pipe for it..

Positively, absolutely 110% obsessed with anything MOTO.

6/25/2018 6:47 AM

A lot of 65 rippers used the 14’ SXS model to basically run a mod bike in the stock class at Loretta’s a few years back. I’m guessing some still do, even though the bike is a few years old.

I love the look of that model (langstons '04). I had a 2003 200sx and 2007 250xc with the similar body style.
I like the look of the style after that too. >>>>

Though I like blue and orange together when you add the red and yellow of the red bull logos it just gets a bit rainbow-ish. And heck, I'm not a big fan of black on bikes. But in KTM's case I like it with the orange.
