But this is getting ridiculous: http://motocrossactionmag.com/two-stroke-tuesday-2007-honda-cr250/

"Handling: For those of you too young to remember the glory days of Honda handling, suffice it to say that Jeremy McGrath loved his 1993 CR250 so much that he never raced a 2004, 2005 or 2006 Honda during his time at Team Honda."

Hoping they meant *1994, 1995, 1996 - Seeing that MC had an amazing second go-round in the mid-2000's back on the HRC machines...

"Gearing: The CR250 really benefits from lower gearing. We added one tooth to the rear sprocket (from a 49 to a 50). This tightened up the gear ratios, got us into the meat of the power quicker and helped the CR out of corners. We ran a Renthal sprocket. Renthal–(877) 736-8425."

OE gearing was 13-48 those last few years...Which, coincidentally, is archived properly on the Renthal website...

The tech advice and insight is generally sound, but can someone please take a few seconds to proofread, copy edit, and at least get the decades correct Sad

They could find a copy editor for like 5 cents an hour these days. Pretty bad.

Your Renthal catslog is wrong. MXA is correct. Stock rear sprocket has 49 teeth.

Good catch - My mistake! Renthal shows 13/48, Sunstar shows 13/49, Parts Unlimited house brand shows 13/50...Not sure what to think as my 06' had a 48.

AM update - Seems they updated the MC decade debacle...Good call on their part. Since they posted theTwo Smoke Tuesday article early (by my PST location), maybe it was just a rough draft before the real Two Stroke Tuesday

I'm not sure why these guys don't go ahead and say "gearing for tight track" "gearing for fast mx track" "gearing for open desert"

It's not only MXA. You have a hard time finding many articles online without some horrible spelling, grammar, etc. Its not right but it is the world we live in. No attention to detail.

Ever read a local newspaper, or even the LA Times or similar?
The grammar and spelling is almost as bad as on this site.

Either they don't pay them enough to give a shit, or they don't even use spell check or grammar check.

What blows me away is an author of a larger size article puts his/her name on it, and it's worse than a 2nd graders work.

How does increasing the sprocket size widen the gear ratios?

It didn't widen it. It tightened it up for example 1-3 gear ratios in the lower part of the rpms into the mid part with a slight decrease in top speed due to the lower gear ratio.

number of teeth on the sprocket doesn't matter, pounds of torque does.

Or Eric Johnson's interview with Chad Reed in TWMX August issue;

"The biggest thing that I look back on, you know,
you're always going to have that "could of, would
of, should of", right?"

Sick

Do people really write "could of" in real life?

I know here on the forum it is mandatory to do thatGrinning

Well, if it is a quote, that could be an indication that the person saying it uses poor grammar and it shouldn't reflect on the person using the quote.

I've been a journalist for 20 years. This thread actually encourages me because people are actually paying attention. And editors these days mostly suck. I quit my last job because this fuknut kept putting errors in my stories and they just gave me crap when I complained. I can't really explain it except that newspaper editing rooms are emptying out. And many of the editors that are left are old and not very good. Associated Press is horrible now.

I notice so many errors on their site it's almost as if they are doing it on purpose. Just the other day I was reading an article on the YZ125 where they were talking about the engine. Only problem was that the picture was a YZ250 engine not a 125. No big deal but stuff like that shouldn't happen at any magazine company and it's the reason they get so much criticism.

One of the Pulp Classic interviews with MCs mechanic Skip. Matthes asked about the frame rumor. He claims they did use the newer frames and many of the newer parts. Was always testing. That they strictly used the 93 frame was false.

Except that "should've" sounds just like "should of" and the person doing the transcription should've known better.

Yeah I see typos in MXA all the time, but it doesn't bother me......at all. The rest are good too, but MXA is still my favorite.

I don't know what is worse the typo's or that Darryl Eckmund guy in their videos, if that is the "voice" of MXA they should be ashamed. Dirt rider is pretty bad with the print edition, the August edition is 82 pages long. The Bass pro shops flyer is thicker than this thing. They better not quit the $25 RM ATV gift card deal, that is probably what is saving their ass's.

MXA website today has a review of the 250 Class at Southwick.....pretty sure they have Dean Ferris (450 Class) confused with Dylan Ferrandis . Smile "Dean Ferris took the checkers in moto one, but fell short of an overall by losing to Osborne in the second moto." Geeze.

It's hard to believe that so many places have different listings for the stock gear ratio. The Honda service manual for the 2005-2007 says 13/49.
