he will not be on his home turf, he will be in Germany, different country, different language, different food, different soil,

he was on his home turf last year, and smoked good old team USA,

With all due respect...
I dont think that Germany is his "own turf".
Now Lierop....that would be more his "own turf". Wink
With that said...it (the MXoN at Lierop) could end up much worse then Lommel did for us. Smile
I wouldn't bet against that kid on any of those sand tracks over there and definitely not on his true "home turf" .

Now Roczen will be on his own turf come the MXoN - that should be good.

Just be thankful that you get to compete with individual countries that have tiny populations compared to the USA.

If it was just USA v Europe it's likely you'd get smoked year on year.

This year the team could be Roczen, Herlings and Cairoli. Be thankful.

Do you guys think he will ride a 250 in MX2 or the 350 or 450 in MX1?

And what Louis said is some-what correct.
Also he did beat Villo in 2011 in France in that MX2/MX3 moto on a dirt/non-sand track.

MX2 + MX3 des Nations Results:
1. Gautier Paulin, FRA (Yamaha)
2. Jeffrey Herlings, NED (KTM)
3. Ryan Villopoto, USA (Kawasaki)
4. Ken Roczen, GER (KTM)
5. Kevin Strijbos, BEL (Suzuki)
6. Gareth Swanepoel, RSA (Yamaha)
7. Brett Metcalfe, AUS (Suzuki)
8. Davide Guarneri, ITA (Kawasaki)
9. Carlos Campano, ESP (Yamaha)
10. Arnaud Tonus, SUI (Yamaha)
11. Marvin Musquin, FRA (KTM)
12. Joel Roelants, BEL (KTM)
13. Marcus Schiffer, GER (Suzuki)
14. Brad Anderson, GRB (Honda)
15. Luis Correia, POR (Yamaha)

Their second moto together looked like this though...

MX1 + Open Class Motocross des Nations Results:
1. Ryan Villopoto, USA (Kawasaki)
2. Ryan Dungey, USA (Suzuki)
3. Tyla Rattray, RSA (Kawasaki)
4. Tommy Searle, GBR (Kawasaki)
5. Davide Guarneri, ITA (Kawasaki)
6. Evgeny Bobryshev, RUS (Honda)
7. Chad Reed, AUS (Honda)
8. Gautier Paulin, FRA (Yamaha)
9. Jeffrey Herlings, NED (KTM)
10. Brett Metcalfe, AUS (Suzuki)

Good question, he might be pretty quick on that 350 when he transitions to the MX1.
He can give allot of MX1 guys a run for their money on the 250 if he get's a good start.

BTW he looked a bit injured and favoring his left leg on the podium today, hope he's ok.

That's what I was thinking, I thought the only time they raced each other was in 2011 and Ryan Villopoto won one race and crashed in the other and couldn't catch Herlings before the race ended. I don't know where the Herlings is 3-1 against Villopoto thing came from. Educate me

Yawn.

I'll be there to see the "Vengance".

We'll see who ins what.

Any guesses on this year's team for us...errrrr, I mean the USA?

RV
RD
BB

Maybe...?

How will they do?

Herlings, MX1 for sure, I would put my money on the 350 (I do not think he has ever raced on the 450)

The Netherlands team has already Coldenoff in MX2, who should do good too (he is a top 3-5 MX2 on a good day)

That said, if the dream team with RV, RD and BB is healthy, I do not see any team running with them, individually it will just be a good battle with the usual suspects "Cairoli, Paulin, Desalle, Herlings, Roczen" but honestly I do not see anyone matching RV's speed. (like Stewart in 08 or RC)

If he would had said "the Ryans RD/RV" it would have made more sense.
Especially adding last year in.
But JH didnt race RV last year -RV wasnt there -but Barcia was there.

Because look at the qualifying results for 2011.
RV beat him. In fact beat him twice that weekend?
So really they're RV 2 JH1...based on 2011.

1. Ryan Villopoto (Kawasaki) 24:46.792
2. Davide Guarneri (Kawasaki) 24:54.496
3. Gautier Paulin (Yamaha) 24:55.500
4. Kevin Strijbos (Suzuki) 24:56.469
5. Brett Metcalfe (Suzuki) 24:57.962
6. Gareth Swanepoel (Yamaha) 25:11.641
7. Jeffrey Herlings (KTM) 25:12.830
8. Arnaud Tonus (Yamaha) 25:30.125
9. Carlos Campano (Yamaha) 25:32.339
10. Martin Michek (KTM) 25:39.753
11. Luis Correia (Yamaha) 25:41.190
12. Brad Anderson (Honda) 25:43.645
13. Krestinov Gert (Kawasaki) 25:46.846
14. Jimmy Albertson (Yamaha) 25:49.583
15. Hiroaki Arai (Kawasaki) 25:56.897

Decoster & James do not have the greatest relationship...There's no friction there - I just believe they dont care for each others company.James has spoke openly about it even on Pulp in the past when asked.
I see Rodger going with RV,Dungey & a MX2 rider.
The choice usually comes down to The Man making the call though.
I see Decoster going with a healthy Dungey (that's his guy anyway) & a healthy RV.
Then going with the top American outdoor lites rider for MX2.

Villopoto didn't crash,Baggett did, although he was pretty much out of it anyway

Herlings Paulin and Roczen had a great scrap that day,Roczen should have probably won actually but lost his goggles

Herlings will be on the 350 for sure

If Herlings does ride MX2, then one of the most interesting match-ups will surely be JH vs a, very motivated in front of home fans... KR.

WE were already talking about going to Germany the same day we lost in Lommel last year.
It's never too early to want pay back and reclaim the cup. SmileWink

Yeah with Coldenoff in MX2, I guess Jeffrey will definitely be riding something bigger, probably MX1 again. Not sure if Germany has another MX2 rider to replace Ken (not replace in speed of course, but able to transition easily to MX2) - most likely same set-up then as last year for team Germany too. Would be interesting to see a modern day JH vs KR fight though.

I like the US's chances with RD5 RV2 Tomac or Baggett vs. anyone. We also have these folks as alternates: DM18, TC41, Bubba, and Barcia. You act as the US wins the MXDN with luck or consistency... hell the state of FL had an incredible run in the MXDN. Lets not forget how RV2 walked the world on a 250F a few years back.

Had Marvin and Kroc won those 250F titles in the US, they would had been pressured to move to the 450F class.

Are you really down playing American Motocross?

Mil saps will be a very questionable alternate since he is not riding the Nationals.
