How will Chad Reed do if he does indeed race a supercross this year

Edited Date/Time 1/22/2022 3:25am
He mentioned his goal was always to race a supercross at the age of 40. He turns 40 in March and has mentioned recently that he still would like to race at 40. I am conflicted because he barley made some mains his last year, but at the same time he was faster at Paris then several guys who are making mains. He was going to race the three Atlantas last year so I would tend to guess if he was going to race it would be Atlanta again this year(Mountain Motorsports headquarters is in GA).

I think he'd qualify and probably finish 12th-15th in the main. I've seen him ride in person recently and make no mistake the man can still go.

Are you saying he was going to race indy last year? He said Atlanta in one of his youtube videos, so I tend to believe what he said out of his own mouth.

When he last raced in 2020, he qualified through his heat race 10 out of 16 races. When he went through the LCQ he finished first 3 times, second twice and third once.

And he generally finished 10th-15th in the main events. (He didn't miss a main.)

Essentially, he was just a little bit better than Kyle Chisholm that year.

If he's in shape, I wouldn't think he'd be too far off that pace. Seems like he could still hang with Chisholm.

With the current talent pool in the 450s, I'd say he would struggle to make the main and if so be near the tail end of the pack. 1st through 15th can haul the mail. I am a fan of Reed but he may struggle this go round. Although any time he's doubted it motivates him. I would love to see him give it a go.

He’ll make the main and finish somewhere around 12-15th would be my guess.

Huge Reed fan, but he's got a little extra "padding" on him right now, judging by the latest YouTube channel vids. If he makes a go, I say he qualifies, but cruises the main. If he plans on being more serious about it, he's got his work cut out.

19-22 at current fitness. 14-18 if he put work in.

Also, didn't he say something about having a setback? The plan was indeed to go racing then he gave it up? Or maybe it is just family life took over and he let the supercross stuff go. I wouldn't be surprised if he's finally "let it go" in that sense as he seems to enjoy what he's doing with the kids.

Taken out by ARay in the LCQ. ARay is later attacked by fans and taken to local hospital.

Not riding or racing regularly, and being mildly out of shape...itd be like his year on the Husky 450 and struggle to get in the main honestly

I think he makes the main. He'll start decent and fade back since his fitness has not been getting better

I’m sorta in the same mindset; but, if he spends 6-8 weeks dedicated to some serious SX training? I think he could have pretty decent night sleep if he grabs some good starts. He seems to be in pretty good shape and judging by Paris, he’s still got speed.

As for the main? 10th - 20th …the meaner the whoops, the better he’ll do.

Looks like he’s only riding a 125 currently. Gave his last SX 450 back to Mountain Motorsports awhile back, swapped it for a 65 for one of the kids,
If he’s still thinking about racing a SX, look for him to at least start riding a 450 again first.

If he’s serious, he’ll make the main and i think that’s all he’d aim for.

He definitely has a 450 and it sounds mean!

I am a lifer CR22 fan.
My opinion is that if he were to come off the couch he'd struggle. These guys today are going so freakin fast and aggressive it's insane. If he spent 3 months training and testing he'd be top ten. That's it.
Still love the guy.

You are definitely a die hard Reed fan if you think he'd be top 10. He did that ONCE (10th at the final round of the series) in 2020 when he was racing full time.

He's now taken a full series off, you really think he'd be top 10?

Just depends on how many clean laps he can perform on the sx track without getting hurt before its go time, age is actually on his side, cause your able to make smarter decisions from the experience of taking the bait when you were younger

He’s one of the best ever. He’ll qualify and while I can’t say what he’ll do in the main, I know I’ll be cheering for him because at his age, I think it will be bad ass to make the night show.

Previously when he talked about qualifying for a SX over 40 He mentioned hiring Aldon for some training.

By March, some attrition will have set in and a few more spots will have opened up in the main. Even then, it'll be tough for him to make it, despite the fact that his talent is out of this world.

I'd like to know how much effort he was putting in during his final year. If he was mailing it in and still making main, then I think he could probably still do that.

But he catches fire after seeing THE table cloth held up by some bare breasted hotties with
a "Go Chad!!" spray painted on it. Chad remounts and is in the main! ARay is in the hospital and Stank is baked.
