How to get your wish of two strokes making a pro comeback

Follow these simple steps.

1. Sell your four stroke
2. Walk into a KTM, Husky, or Yamaha dealer.
3. Buy two stroke.
4. Buy parts for two stroke
5. Never buy another four stroke again.

If KTM's sales skyrocket on smokers- tell me the other brands wouldn't follow suit? They already do. The dollar drives the direction of the market. You can't sit here on the internet professing your love for smokers, then go buy a new Honda 450 but hope they will make smokers again. Simple logic

Wanna be more HC, skip the Yamaha.

I would never ever pay that price for a bike that hasn't had any R&D work on it for 11 years. R&D is a huge part of the cost for a OEM = higher or lower price of a product.

With that said, 2 strokes in pro racing are gone. And who cares? The big part of the "sport" in my opinion is at the local tracks and we who ride. Want to see fast kids on 2 strokes, buy the MXGP-TV package and watch the EMX125 class. Awesome racing.

I don't believe they honestly are. If Feld takes over the world via SX, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 250 national class form.

Chef, bolt the 300 kit on your bike, come up to oak ridge, and let me ride it. That will make my mind up

Great idea! Since you seem to be leading the charge will you also be footing the bill for all these brand new 2 strokes?

Way ahead of you. And the reason I was happy to spend $6800 on a new bike in 2014 that was basically an 06, was that I got a new bike, and not someone's clapped machine.

I don't care what pros race. Personally, I hate the sound of MX and SX today.

I love two strokes, but they also aren't the perfect machine for everyone.

Well, one new development for 2017 for the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship is that both Hangtown and Glen Helen will be racing two-strokes on Saturday pro day before opening ceremonies. Glen Helen already has a qualifier race in April to fill their two-stroke field, and Hangtown is still working on how its two-stroke race will be filled. But both races expect to have a 40-rider gate of two-strokes in front of their Saturday crowds. The only downside is that it won't be televised. But I can't wait to see a full gate of two-strokes at Hangtown again.

I just dont see 2-strokes coming back. Love it or hate it but the next direction the sport and manufacturers are probably going to go is electric. I would be willing to bet that at least one of the Japanese brands are already at the drawing board working on something we wont see for another 5 or so years.

I miss the smell of Klotz R50 from a perfectly jetted smoker.

After owning a mint '04 CR250 last year and having 4 strokes for the last 15 years i would much rather a 450 than another 250 smoker.

I bought 2 new four strokes. 1new 2 stroke before them. I will never buy a new four stroke again.
Currently running 250 and 500 2 strokes.
I would put a deposit down on an updated RM250 with spring forks asap if it ever becomes available.

Compare that CR to a 2004 four stroke for apples to apples comparison.

4 strokes are just to easy to ride. Why would a c class vet go buy a smoker that has a powerband that is 500 rpm's long, when he could get a 450 he can gear down and ride a 1/4 throttle (probably just as fast). Or a dad buy his kid a 250 smoker when the lazy kid can ride the 250f faster. The new engines don't blow up as often. My son is a local fast kid and has 60 hrs on his 17' 250f. Check the valves every 2hrs and still never had to adjust them. Just like leaded gas, 2 strokes are history for the Pro's.

The motorcycle economy is going downhill faster and faster year after year.

The OEMs have a hard time selling bikes as it is compared to 15 years ago. Maybe a slight percentage of that is four stroke related, maybe it's just the way the world has trended towards us being an undesirable niche. I see electric coming before a two stroke resurgence.

I really want to turn some laps on a 17 250SX or TC. I had an 09 250SX before I got my YZ, and I almost wound up with a new 2014 SX, but was tired of riding on the WP suspension. But people seem to really like the new WP stuff.

If I were buying a new 250 smoker this year, the decision would have been harder.

You check the valves every two hours? That makes my brain hurt to think about someone actually doing that. Sounds like you don't have that much faith in the machinery.

This is not a 2 vs. 4 thread. I just wanted to say out loud how many people on here talk about wanting a two stroke resurgence but continuously buy four strokes.

As for the argument of "two strokes aren't for everyone". Funny, because they were in the golden days of riding and racing when it was your only option. The Japanese hoodwinked you cats while they were caught up in an engine performance pissing match.
