How to buy a leftover YZ250F?

Edited Date/Time 7/6/2017 8:10pm
Looking to buy my first bike. By the look of some dealership sites, looks like 2018s should be in stock soon. What's the best way to go about finding a deal on a leftover 2017? I don't have a local dealer as I just moved and am about to soon. I contact a few through their sites that show stock, but have gotten no reply from all but one, who said they didn't actually have any.

And I guess I should ask—what can I expect to save by going with a new, year old model? The sites that listed 2016s AND 2017s only showed a $100 difference between the two which seemed odd.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is no specific number you can expect to get. Call around to all the shops you know of that you are willing to drive to. Be upfront and tell them you are ready to buy and looking for the lowest bidder. Different shops are going to have different priorities with how much stock they have, room they need for new units, ect.

To add to that, OP, make sure you get it as the "out the door price" and that you will bring a pre-written check for that amount only. And, ask them to get it in writing. They could e mail it to you. Some dealers are notorious for the ol' bait and switch.

Upstate NY, but I'm pretty much willing to drive anywhere…I'm actually driving back from Charlotte the 3rd and could go anywhere in PA.

Those places I named are driving distance for you. Troy city is closer and good prices too, the dealers I listed you'll avoid sales tax as its out of state for you

I'd suggest new Hampshire there's no tax. Troy city charges freight set up and tax

Just remember, out of state there's no sales tax. keep that in mind. I buy all my bikes in NJ or PA for that reason.

Wait til the 18 is out on the floor, subract 1k from that price. Ask about rebates, and blue cru $$, after u get a otd price.

Also this week the crf250 is $ 7490.

Does KTM clink champagne glasses every time they send a bike to Aus & NZ? It's inconceivable to me why the 4 mfgs are nearly half the price going into the off season...and the KTMs are still selling.

Not sure where you got those ktm prices but i paid 11800 for a 17 450sxf in December last year. The same shop is still advertising them for 12000 now. So i don't know if i got a really good deal ( it was my first bike i bought from that store) or they have got more room to move now.

Im up for a new bike soon and If i was to buy a 17 (450sxf) model right now, i certainly wouldn't want to pay more than 10500 for it. For some reason I'm tempted to buy a rmz250 for 7500. I know it sounds crazy but you don't see many them around anymore and nearly everyone owns a ktm now.

Those prices are not accurate. Ktm price is pretty close the rest are under priced. My local shop is selling 17 yz450f for 10600 runout at the moment. Check bikesales.com.au before you tell me im full of shit.

You can also get in touch with Yamaha corporate (their phone number is on their website), and request a dealer list. It will show you every dealer in the country that has the model you are looking for, and it's updated weekly. I found a friend a new, in crate, 2013 250f 6 months ago. I had 11 dealers info that had them in a matter of 5 mins! They didn't list prices, but it was worth the effort to make a few calls. Good luck!

You can do that online as well:
https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/motorcycle/inventory/search/5733c4a82…

Or click Dealer Search from the 2017 YZ250F page.

For the OP: I would buy out of state as well to avoid taxes. Just make sure you get the Certificate of Origin (MSO or MCO).

How exactly does buying out of state allow you to avoid taxes? Aren't their sales taxes regardless?

Thanks for this tip. Ended up using this link and have reached out to a few shops since they were closer (or out of state) than the other shops mentioned in this thread.

Only one response thus far at $6899 OTD. Doesn't seem terrible, but hoping for a little better.

I would only use that to identify which dealers had the bike you seek. Ebay is also an option:

Rock River had them at a local race a month ago for $5999, not sure if there were added fees as I just bought one and wasn't in the market...Also another dealer Port Yamaha has them for $6500 and his prices are usually "actual" prices with no additional fees.
