I remember being 12 and I started a guys Gas Gas 250 at a local track, this was back in 2002. Guy flat out said, “well since you can start it, take it for a few laps.”
My dad had a huge smile watching me take the 250 out on the track.

In all seriousness, when I was around 14-15 and 5'5" and probably 115 lbs it wasn't a cakewalk at first on my CR 125, but I also didn't ride a ton. After the first month or two it got easier though.

Most get by without them but you an could always use some wood blocks to get started.

How bad do you want to ride it? I'm finding with my kids that when they want to ride it bad enough the figure out how to make it work. My daughter started transitioning to a 65 last fall. She's extremely short. On her 65 she was one foot tippy toe and her other leg was swung over the seat with her foot in the air. She made it work and did really well last fall. This year she's currently both feet tippy toe. I say if you can get on it, start it up and balance long enough to get going then your tall enough. She used starting blocks in the gate last year also.

Um I'm 39 and probably still not tall enough for a big bike. But yeah you need to be able to pick it up and start it.

Yeah as long as you can pick it up and start it who cares? I remember I would constantly steal my dad’s ktm 250 when I was probably...12? Can’t imagine it was much more than 5 feet. Sucked starting it but the rest was fine

My daughter is 5' and rides a CRF 250R and has ridden a full size bike since she was 14. Hope that helps.
