Seems like he's been around forever and has the talent & charisma to sell himself, and to pull sponsors even at his age and even though he's no threat for the podium. Gotta admire that.

He was riding B class in 95. Towards the end of the year we were at Baja, I was running my normal 12-15th place out of 18-20, when I came into the back section. Nick and several other fast riders were sitting on the outside of the berm talking. I'm thinking what the heck, I'm going as fast as I can, but they can pull off and chat. Well the results were posted, I finished 5th, my buddy says look you beat Nick and all the other fast guys. As it turns out, they didn't want to point out of B class so they let all the back markers like myself move up. That's the real story, the story I tell my kids while watching SX now is I used to smoke that guy. :-)

My dad had rode with Nick right around those years as well and he swares Nick would lap the entire B class
