My girls got a 1990 cr 250 and I'm trying to get her on a crf 150r. The bike has a blown shock seal, and the rear wheel has a couple of spokes that won't tighten :/. The motor is pretty fresh though. I'm just trying to get this thing sold quick. What you think it's worth?

Up here that would fetch a grand at the very least, i would ask 1400 obo, and take the best offer.

But then again.. this type of thing goes for alot more here than in the US.

Har! more? Looks pretty roached out, I wouldn't take it for free. You will end up having 2500 in a 1000 dollar bike when you are done.

The $1400 asking price sounds about right. The bike doesn't look too bad to me and there might be some 40 year old guyWink ... that wants to have the bike he raced way back when. But if you want to get rid of it fast I'd say more like $800.

Vital Bluebook says $800-$1400.

NADA book value - 1990 CR250

Excellent $2055
Very Good $1470
Good $920
Fair $640
Poor N/A

It's had to determine the condition from a photo, but the bike appears to be in good, to very good condition. Subtract the cost of a shock rebuild and spoke job and you are looking at about $800-1000.

Funny, if you said you just bought it for $1400 the 2-stroke Taliban would all praise you for getting such a steal. "Dude, that's a Stanton replica CR, fix that shock and you'd get $3k no problem!"

IMO, being 23years old and from the state of WA, that looks to be in pretty good condition because bikes usually get beat down fast up there.

See if your local vintage clubs run any classes for the decade (10 year old bikes) or the Dos XX classes and point your ad that direction. If that was a 74 CR250 in that condition it would be worth a small fortune. As is, about a grand....

What do you ride at the moment?
Nothing, I am injured right now.

2004 RM125 and 2005 RM250 are my main rides. Minus all the bonus items, I have just over 1k into my 125 including the bike purchase and it is pristine. Old CR250 isn't worth much for a lot of people.......

I'd buy it if you weren't on the other side of the country....

I somewhat agree with your value assessment although IMO its a little high. It is in way to bad shape to be a $1000 bike.

Blown shock $500
Linkage is frozen $200
Whats with the forks? Shortened or fubar?

No way dude we are stupid Vitards! Why wouldn't anyone want to invest 2000.00 in a 1990 model!

it would be stupid to spend 2900.00 pick this 2009 up and ride the same day........

Regarding the value, here in Europe where bikes are more expensive, it would go for 1000E, so I guess 1 grand in the US.

That bike looks like a brand new bike after half an hour with me, except that the tank would be more damaged by my CTIs, and 1 chance out of 3 that the plastics/handlebar would be in a worse condition. My brother who litterally takes 2 hours to clean the spokes was always super pumped when I used to pin his bikes Smile

I guess the previous owners were slow or not riding, I would bet $20 that the cylinder is in A or B.

Do the mini work on it (spokes, shock seal on ebay/craiglist/etc maybe for 50 or 100), a little in between moto check up (oil, filter, plugs, and a more recent tyre you used for training), and POLYTROL to make you plastics brand new, in total that may cost a good benjamin but you will sell it faster and for a reasonable price.

If you are good in graphics or know someone who is (with an ink jet printer + white polyester + transparent vinyl), living in the US, you may do indeed a kind of Stanton replica, I would do a Bayle one, and you may find a purist or a taliban that will give you a bit more to put it in their living room and occasionaly ride it Smile

No need to do a real replica with HRC parts like this one if you are selling it: http://www.jeanmichelbayle.fr/html/Goodies/CR_REPLICA/CR_REPLICA_1991_R…

P.S. I agree with a previous post, except that I would put in between "taking something in a fridge": "Pics of the girl, or it didn't happen............. " LOL

Good luck Smile

Until it goes ka-boom, not saying the old CR is a better choice. You can pickup a nice 2stroke for 2500, ready to ride.

Lol I actually think I can ride it faster in a lot of spots than I can on my 450. The motor on it blew me away. Super super smooth chassis as well.

Thanks for the advice people!
