My buddies all raced D37 hare and hounds. I went out with them. One day, after about a year of racing, I had one of those days. I would be on a fire road actually trying to find another gear on my KX 500. I would have a pack in front of me, wonder why they were so slow, and go out into the pucker bushes and pass them all. I was in the zone. It takes a while for the results to come to you, but I was first in my class that day. I couldn't believe it. The Checkers Hare and Hound of 1997.

The first mx race was the 1998 Cal State Am Championship at Glen Helen. It was the first race my dad came to watch me ride. I won the open novice, back when they still had open class.

I have won a few Vet races in MX too. The most fun is battling someone you can trust not to take you out.
Oh, and I am in the Loretta's Vault, I qualified there once in 1999 and Ron Tichenor won my class, I was 32nd.

I won my C class LLQ back in 03 and a few B class races the next few years. These days I'm just happy as long as I beat my riding buddies.

Since this thread encourages us to beat our own drum, from '96-'07 I earned approximately thirteen state championships between motocross, ice racing, and hill climb.

A bunch of flat track and a few mx wins as a kid, and a couple hundred roadrace wins as an adult.

BobbyM has won plenty of races!

I didn't win this moto at the 1984 Hangtown national (I didn't win any national moto's), but this is me getting the holeshot there in the first moto.

Right next to Cooper. Cool and his short sleeve jersey.

Thank's pictures were taken by the late James Moorhouse,a freelance journalist, who covered Yorkshire Trials and Motocross events for many years for our weekly newspaper Trials & Motocross News, which celebrates it's 2000th edition tomorrow!, a fantastic achievement............................
James was a real gentleman, who always took the time to come and interview winners after the race and would send you prints of his great photo's in the post.

-Won a NMA Championship at Rio Bravo in Houston when I was 12.
-Won a total of about 15-20 races in the minibike class on my XR-75.
-Moved up to big bikes when I was 14. Raced Novice once and won, raced Intermediate once and won.
-Started riding the Expert class. Took about a year to get my first win. At some point had 12 wins in a row in South Texas.
-Moved to Houston when I was 20 to further my "career". Only ended up with two Expert wins.
-Made the night programs to about 6 Supercrosses. Never made a Main. Did make it to the 40 rider field at the Lake Whitney 250 national.
-Have raced a handful of times in the last 10 years. Two wins, I think. Vet class now of course!

What might be an interesting thread is:

"What tracks have you raced and won at?"

You've got Full-Spectrum in here and some of the replies might surprise a lot of you.

For instance: guys like BobbyM raced The Real "Hangtown"...

Speed, skill and stamina were never my strengths . . . but I had a lot of fun.
I thought you were way too smart to race dirt bikes FTE? Smile

The photo is from the December 1984 issue of Motocross magazine I think. It has a caption under it in the magazine. If anybody has that issue in their collection and wouldn't mind scanning it with the caption, I sure would love to have it.
Thanks,
Mark

Brains has nothing to do with it, other than to figure out when your skills don't match your balls in terms of keeping as safe as can be expected. It's pretty hard to argue your balls are too big to race dirt bikes.

Cool stuff right here Scottie! This was after your injury right? Ive been thinking after my surgery maybe one of these would be easier and safer to get back into than another 450. I just wont know until I heal and Ill make that decision then but was curious how hard these were on your back, is it super harsh when landing or does the suspension soak it up well enough not to bother you.

How many states or town have you been in the ER? I'd have to really cipher on that one to get them all.

The Daytona infield hospital was one,got a free xray and ambulance ride up pit road.

Just want to say that this is one of the best threads on here in a while. It is great to see how many among us have had that feeling at least once or twice if not a bunch of times.

Won some amateur road races in 90s then a bunch of vet b races in the 2000s and more roadraces in mid 2000s along with a couple of amateur titles . Im 50 now and I don't really race anymore just some VMX stuff but I do ride a lot . I'm lucky enough to ride with some older guys that are faster than me so it pushes me a little , can't afford to get hurt anymore.

My first win was the 125 Beg class at the 1989 Adelanto Grand Prix- funny thing is, it was my first District 37 race and my pops and I had no clue where I finished because all levels of racers were on the course at the same time, which was like 200 people. So I pull off after the checkers, and I'm like "How'd I do?", his answer was "You looked good to me!" LOL. I Didn't have a clue I won until I got the results in the mail 6 weeks later. I Remember the feeling of opening the results at the mail box, and then sprinting to the phone to call the old man at work. Greatest feeling ever! :-)
