The strange thing to me is that after 4 rounds Short has only 7 more points than Alessi (who only ran 2 races). Short did have one DNF at hangtown but his results are way below par for what he has done his entire career.

exactly and some people think that he is where he always was. IMO the bike is holding him back.

For sure the 350 has killed the starts of last years holeshot king.

Dudes the 350 works with some people and some it doesn't...get over it.

Alessi got a holeshot on the 350 last year...

Speaking about Short, what about Metcalf who was getting a lot of podiums on the geico honda and this year on factory suzuki is having trouble getting a 5-10...Its called the competition.

He looked as if his KTM was pulling Dungey on the uphills. Dungey looked like his suspension was working better going into bumpy the downhill turns, just a casual observation from a non expert. Good to see KTM running up front, thanks to Mike800!

the field is so much deeper this year. short could be on a 550 and his results wouldnt be much different imo. just look at the field right now and compare it to years past.

The field is deeper, but last year he was getting holeshots, leading motos, I think he won a moto, mixing it up with Dungey at times, and beating guys like Metty. This year you rarely even hear his name. I think he would be fighting for top fives if he were still on the Honda.

Short's doing a lot better on the 350 than his alternative - sitting on the bench.

How is the field any different than it was last year? We are missing a BT but gained an RV. That is about the only difference.

I think to put Short's performance into perspective you need to look at more than just last year.

In 2009, with arguably one of the weakest fields in a long time - no RV, JS, Alessi and a sick Reed - Short got no moto wins, a few podiums and the rest of the time struggled to finish in the top five. At various times he was beaten by, or finishing around the same position as, Tedesco, Byrne, Tommy Hahn, Grant, Regal, Goerke etc.

Yes he finished the championship second, but he was nearly 100 pts behind Reed, and Reed didn't score points in two motos at the end.

My point is not to discredit Short's performance last year, where he did well, but to show that he's had ups and downs over the last few years, and the guys he is battling with now are the same guys he's battled with regularly in the past.

agreed, MA800 looks like he's holding on for dear life in some of the rougher sections.

Just me speculating and reading between the lines, it sounded like they wanted Short to be on the 350 just for marketing purposes to help build the bike and do as good as he could on it. Win if he could but if he doesn't, help KTM work out kinks in the production bike. I know every racer is paid to win but in Short's case, is he more there for marketing whereas Alessi's forte is winning in the outdoors so that's why he is on the big bike?

Man Short's out there all the time giving his all, that what I judge a rider by. He's a winner in my book.

Bullshit! We aren't after Budds Creek yet so what does that leave. The only difference is 32 is in his rookie. Not much difference. Plus Grant was well into it last year at this time, not just getting back in.

No need to speculate, that's exactly what Everts/DeCoster/KTM said was their plan for the first couple of years.

For some reason I get the feeling DeCoster is working his magic again, it's still early in the game. Dude reminds me of the Clint Eastwood of MX, calm, cool, quietly handling his business.

So many holeshots, he's also probably has the record for averages between getting passed and making passes. 100-0

He's had some bad luck since he turned pro and is just about always coming back from an injury. He was owning the 450 class before his bad crash where he was knocked out and run over several times. He wasn't getting passed very often that year. You should cut him some slack.

This isn't technically a holeshot. Other riders would have been docked for advancing position while outside the track.

Never mind, let the haters hate. Going to be a long year for them anyway!

Not "hating" as you say it, just saying.

Last week he was let off with a slap on the wrist for doing the same thing J-Law got black-flagged for.

Now this week he got creative with his lines and cut across Windham and Dungey to get the holeshot.

Call me whatever you want. I call out any rider who cheats and gets away with it and stand up for any rider that is unfairly docked. And each time I call out a rider, no matter who, his fanboys call me a hater. Whatever, I'm over it.

Heaven forbid Alessi take a longer path around the first turn in to uncharted territory and still get a holeshot. It's like he was trying to do his best or something...

the guy can nail a start at any track and under any conditions, very impressive.

i am still waiting for him to chill out in the first 4-5 laps and save some of that energy for the last 10 laps
