Nobody in this entire world likes both dirtbikes and quads. That's just simple physics.

Sure they do, try pulling a deer out of wood with your dirt bike.

A lot of people swap out for a TRX450 throttle on those machines. The XC motor is pretty bulletproof stock, but Tim’s machines would be far from that. Fuel Customs makes intakes for the that are much better for sealing, I find the stock one you have to be super careful and make sure the corners don’t lift off the tube.

I tried doing a relay swap on it not sure if this is what's causing the problem now, the quad was bought as a demo and had a top in problem then but KTM warranty it , when I pulled the motor apart there was definitely a lot of head work done the bike was supposed to be a 450, went to check the end gap on my rings and they fell right through the cylinder , I think it's a 520 or 530 I actually forget now that was almost 8 or 9 years ago I plan on getting it running this year. It definitely was a little more hammered than most demo bikes but it came with a lot of cool stuff on it.

IIRC Tim always raced the "525" (actually 510) in the woods. So that would make sense.

What are KTMS going for on the market? And isnt the polaris 525 the same thing but with independent rear suspension?

I've got an 09 SX model up for $5K CAD. The polaris uses the engine but the frame, intake, carb and electronics are all theirs. The KTM is a much better machine.

Someone posted a picture of a YZ250 chassis with a Banshee engine swap on Facebook recently. Every redneck east of the Mississippi creamed their pants. I posted the HP numbers of a Banshee vs a YZ250...hell even a YZ125 and probably offended half of them.

Used to, and would race both at local mx and ax, and switch back and forth on my practice tracks. Then got way more serious on the quad side. Eventually stopped that, and rode moto only for another year or so before selling everything with motors (and swore I'd never be one of those old slow guys..) and focusing on school. Fast forward a 'few' years and I do a very occasional hare scrambles on my 300XC. Quads are a lot of fun, but they are money/time pits compared to motorcycles with a lot fewer places to ride them.

This is the original banshee, these bikes were fun to ride. Pretty sure the bike predated the quad.

When I was a kid I read an article in 3&4 Wheel Action about a 120mph banshee that won Pikes Peak, which I thought was pretty cool. The point isn't to bash on the Banshee, but more so the ideology that the 350 Twin engine is some superior off-road machine, because its not. To your point I can gear a YZ125 to go 100 mph.

Back to your remark, they probably weren't all that mad because anyone who thinks a hacked up 2002 YZ250/Banshee engine bike is better than just a YZ250 (or YZ125 for that matter) are the type of people who ask you if your bike has a power band in every gear --> Wouldn't be able to "learn" them anything anyways.

A Hacked up Hybrid wouldnt be cool, but a well built, 70-80hp 2 stroke twin with big dirty expansion chambers on both sides? That's drool worthy! I haven't seen the bike in question but if you did it right it would be one wicked machine!

I've spun a few laps on one of those at Mosport! An 83 all done up, man did that thing ever howl! Big difference between the RZ and the Banshee engines was the Banshee's lack of YPVS. But yes the bottom ends were identical.
