The helmet cam shot of the wheel dropping over and whacking him looked like it was a solid hit right on his head.
As for the comment that he sat it out and is going to set out the rest of the season because of the bike is silly. That was one heck of a hit from two different bikes. I give him credit, that would have made me say I am going to take the night off as well. He got pounded hard when Kevins bike came down on him.
If you pause the Go-Pro video, the bike that rides over the camera appears to be a Kawasaki judging by the green blur, with a rider who is putting his foot down. Also note the carnage is taking place to the right of the camera. Pretty sure the camera got ran over by the #54 machine, causing it to tumble down the jump multiple times before coming to a halt. The only other way for the camera to tumble around like that were if James' Bell came off his head.
- A good reference point to compare both videos is the Honda rolling over the third jump before the #54 rear wheel rides over the camera.
Replay/Go Pro footage are around 23-60 second mark

Here's the heat race link. I think you can actually see the Go Pro on the ground while they are zoomed up on him at the 25 second mark. Someone should check their DVR because 480 is as high as the quality goes. https://youtu.be/latmhcuv7WE

Also, there was a podcast last fall/summer where Reed talked about not being able to run his normal pace at Washougal that he had been prior to the crash at Millville, because he didn't feel as mentally sharp and on point from the lingering affects of his concussion. Hope James takes all the time he needs to come back fully prepared.
One more thing. In the heat race video, a flagger picks up the Go-Pro off the ground and hands it to the track official.
Same as boxers, at the start of their career they can take loads of punishment and still finish the fight. Once they've been knocked out a couple of times it gets much easier to stop them. There are lots of examples but Meldrick Taylor and Jermain Taylor are good ones. Once the punch resistance is gone its gone and towards the end of their careers you could pretty much blow these guys over. Stewart has had how many serious concussions now? 10?
If he was a boxer they'd be considering withdrawing his license. MX is well behind the times in terms of neurology. I hope he gets checked out properly this time because I agree with the OP that it didn't look like a massive impact and yet he looked like he didn't know where he was.
Post a reply to: How in the world did James get a concussion?
