Can someone explain in a nutshell how the daytime qualifying works? I see the A,B,C groups, the segments, etc. But no explanation on how it works or who moves on to the night show from the day qualifying.

Whoever turns a lap fast enough to qualify in the top 40.

First time out for each class (250 and 450) and each group for each class (a, b, and c) is a free practice. I.e. times are not recorded. Then there are two timed practice sessions for each class and each group. Of that the fastest 40 times for each class make it to the night show.

Now if we could just combine the 250's, we would be having a real competition instead of a fake 2nd class.

Maybe MEC could adopt this now that the SX series has done what the MEC had?

Invite 80 riders, sudden death with quarterfinals, semis and 1 main! Wake me up man!
