How Long Between Wins for You?

Thinking back on this year and reading the "best memories" thread, I won my first motos and overall that day in over 3 years--I couldn't believe how long it took to win again! How long have you all gone between wins? Funny, you never give up or stop trying, and looking at the National-level Pros, how long do you think some of them go between wins and how do they stay motivated?

I won some races in 2010, then didnt win again until Oct 2016. Granted, I was deployed in 2011and took a lil time off from 13-15 due to injury/divorce/life changes, but that stuff happens to everyone in a way.

Sounds like you can expect to win quite a bit more in your new stomping ground : ) ! Gotta uphold the "old age and treachery" record in the military class!!

Back to OP- it seems like I bumble into some thing at least once a year haha!

Don't think I raced last year at all, but won +25 A one of the few times I raced in '14. Raced +30 A twice this year and won them both. Wish my race win ratio was that good in my 250 and 450 A days. Seems most my life long competition has hung up the boots. I rarely show up myself.

Winning (especially a championship) requires quite a bit of luck in addition to speed. The series I race, first, second and third in the class will usually get bumped. They're not usually competitive enough in the next class. Even if you only take second and thirds to stay in points, you can get bumped. That's a little bit where I'm at. I got bumped 2 years ago and just haven't been competitive in my new class. Hopefully I can change that this year.

1986 to 2002. Didn't have a bike during that time at all. Sold everything when DB got hurt.

Dealt with Cancer in 2000-2001. Said screw it and bought a bike. Won my first race back at an AHRMA National in 2002.

If we are only counting modern bikes, it was 1986 to 2003.

Same here. I'll be 30 this year though, so I'll see if Vet is any different.

You turn 60 have had a knee replaced and come home after every race in one piece you will understand the love of the sport and each race win or lose is a victory.

Only think I've ever won was an arena cross lcq. Bunches seconds, thirds, and so on, but no wins. Frankly, I'd be surprised if I did snag a win until I move to the vet class.

My last win was in 1984 racing 250 intermediate.
Got hurt in January of 1985. Quit riding.
I started riding again in 1994.
I started racing one race a year, in 1999. The Vet Nationals at Glen Helen.
That is the only racing that I do.
I have missed 3 or 4 races there since 1999 but do my best to get out there every year to spin some laps.
Other than the Vet Nationals, ride moto pretty much every weekend. With my son. He is the one in my avatar.
Like Mr. Info said above, completing a race, win or lose, is a victory.
This coming year I get to run in the 55+ class, so maybe I will finally get another win!
So to answer the OP question, 32 plus years and still counting.

Well...the last race I won was as a 21 yr. old expert (1987) I'm hoping to win at least one of the WORCS races this year in the over 50+ amatuer level.

If successful It will be 30 yrs. between wins!

My gap was from July 2005 to June 2012. School, injuries, finances and general dis-interest all played a part at some time or another. It's tough to keep winning for long, usually you just get moved to a higher class. Next season I will be Vet class eligible.

Since '14. The +40 class isn't big but there are some face guys that have gone to LL and have tried to qualify for nationals/SX that I race against and I don't really have a chance to beat them. I try my best to get a good start and hold them off for a couple of laps, getting 3-5 I consider a win. I could race 30b and win but no point in that. In 5 years I can race +50 so maybe then I can go for some wins...

back in 2011, riding 50 expert 5 moto weekend. Won the first 3 moto's, then took a digger the 4th moto, snapped my wrist, only raced twice since then. Maybe all wait till the 60 year old class to get after it Woohoo

1st win was in 1976 Big Wheel Schoolboy class on my RM 100 at 14 yrs old. Last win at 43 came in the +30 and +40 C class at 43 years old in Staples, Mn. Raced both classes and won both-funny thing was it was a last second decision just to preserve my sanity. Took off by myself and rode practice day and rode like shit. I thought oh man, is this it? Is this the weekend that I quit racing? Then I decided to stop riding like a pussy and put my head down and started racing instead of riding around and it was one of the best days of my racing life, all by myself. Got home at 1 am Sunday night feeling a whole better than when I left the house.

Last win in moto was 1984 at Dade City, 250B. Blew out the ACL in right knee in '87, and parked it. Jumped into flat track racing, and won the final at the SE regional championship 250B class in Daytona, 1995. Raced until '06, first ever win was 1976 on a YZ125.

That's exactly what I ran into here--the Over 50 class got really salty the last few years, with some really fast old farts in there! And the SOBs are in shape, LOL! Had to really step it up! Funniest quote of all, though, I call my wife on the way home and tell her I won. Her response? "What, did nobody else show up?" Gotta love her!

I'm still aiming to not get last place. Only time that happened last year at pir was when someone else got injured or didn't line up. I was close once to getting that elusive 2nd to last, but didn't get it...haha.
