I really want this tire to work better than the dunlops, be lighter, last longer, and be cheaper. Can we work this out???

They already make this tire, it’s called the Starcross 5.

Front tire is coming. For now they are racing with only the rears, but have tested a front, it's just not quite ready.

Just letting everyone know you'll be able to purchase them starting next week on April 11th on hoosiertire.com

Keefer just did a Tires podcast this week, but I suspect he'll be quite anxious to test this one

Anyone have any info on how they will be priced? Higher, lower, or about the same?

Mav, thanks for the heads up!

wvupetro2013abc123, About the same as what??

I think they mentioned it is a "race tire" which makes me think Dunlop 756 RR or something like that. I have never seen it mentioned as budget price and budget performance.

No actual information on price so just a guess but they'll more than likely be priced higher since it's a race specific tire. I wouldn't expect them to last as long as what's currently on the market. That said if you're racing at a high level it might be a great option but other than that you're more than likely better off spending your money on a set of Michelin, Dunlop, etc.

Also, it looks like they'll only have a rear tire available in a medium/intermediate compound in the 110/90-19 size, at least for the time being. I'm sure other sizes and compounds will be coming soon along with front tires. Let's not forget they're still new to the MX market so they're still testing and developing.

The Club MX Redemption Racing Team will be in Minneapolis next weekend so maybe Vital MX can get some more information from them or the Hoosier guys if they're in attendance?

My bad, I just now seen this. I was asking in comparison to starcross 5, Dunlop’s, Bridgestones, etc... from their website the price is 145. Unless they have them listed cheaper on BTO or RM MC, I will be sticking with the starcross’s likely.

I imagine that you are correct that the intention of this tire likely is the same as 756RR.

I'd compare the Hoosier more to a Dunlop MX3S. Jarett Pesci (pictured) tried a few tires before the RedBud National and was very happy with the Hoosier. Lugs seem sturdy yet still a softer compound. Almost like the perfect mix between a Michelin MS3 and the Dunlop MX3S. Seems like with the Michelin cracking knobs off happens a little soon, maybe due to the harder rubber compound. The Dunlop may loose its square edge a little quicker but overall maintains a good knob for a while.

I’ve ridden on the rear with an mx3 on the front fir approx 6 hours. I normally run the MX3 on the rear.

My opinion is that the tire hooks up great ! It’s wearing pretty good (better than expected) and it seems to grip well on the tracks I’ve ridden so far. I’d like to ride some hard packed tracks to get the full effect of the soft rubber knobbies, but haven’t had a chance yet.

The tire looks very similar to an MX33. It is very light compared to the Dunlop. White lettering looks cool. I assume it is made for soft terrain, although it is the only one they have at the moment I think. I'm told they will sell for around 50% more than the Dunlop, but I dont't know that for sure. The Hoosier rep gave a couple tires to the shop my son rides for. He tried one at a hardpack track with a concrete start. End result was three poor starts and a hard get off from losing grip around a hardpacked sweeper. Injured his hip and is on crutches. I suppose he needs to give it a try on a softer terrain track to be fair.

Well that’s not what I would expect. Hope your kid is OK.

So now that these have been out for a while, how have the Hoosiers held up from the people that bought them?

To my understanding they're not supposed to last, they're just supposed to be really good for a short amount of time.

They are supposed to be a spec tire available to the public, so I'd be surprised if they lasted for two full race weekends.

Someone commented on them in a thread and if I remember correctly he said they're holding up better than the MX3S and he's riding on harder packed dirt. Said he would loved to try them on softer/east coast dirt.

Can't remember who said it or what thread it was posted in.

Wow that's surprising, usually spec tires and good for a moto or two.

Ours hooked up nicely at Loretta's this year! We have been running them on the west coast all season and have been loving them!

The Hoosier truck was in attendance at The Ranch this year and quite a few racers were running them. I hear they are working on tires for the 50cc machines next, with the 21" front tire in the works also!

I’ve got 12 hours on mine and I’m surprised at how little wear is showing. It’s lasted longer than the Dunlop MX3 tires for sure !
