They don't want a stock production bike in a shootout if they can't verify the set up. Thats my take on it. All the other bikes in the test probably have been through the process.

My wife has a friend who works for Jaguar in the UK and it is her job to set up and prep magazine test vehicles. It is quite a process that they go through. Bedding in the brakes, alignments, setting trans and engine calibrations, and much more. She hated prepping cars for Top Gear, said Jeremy Clarkson always hated new Jags. He actually liked the last one she did for them.

We live in a bizarre World where tests meant for Consumers information are really conducted for Manufacturers preferences.

Years ago this happened with Dirt Rider I believe. (If i remember the magazine correctly) Suzuki would not supply bikes for testing because the magazine would always tear the bike/suzuki a new one.

Indeed. This is especially strange as you can race a 250 2 stroke right up to pro national level here. (in the "250" class)
