I'm in the process of fixing up my 06 250. Called around to multiple places looking for a cylinder and no one had one. Had a dealer even search the database and their all on back order with no eta. Luckily my motor guy had one setting around at the shop. Just wondering if certain parts are getting hard to come by and if anyone else has had trouble?

most of the japanese brands only stock parts for about 7-10 years after a model comes out, and then they dont make them anymore, so when they run out, its done,

being that the honda 2 strokes are 10 years old now, a lot of stuff will start not being available,

Just bought a new CR250R cylinder from Partzilla for ~$330 free shipping. haven't had any issues yet but I am stock piling a few parts for my CR's when I come across them.

When I checked two months ago there were still 02 and 03 cylinders available. No idea how different they are.

Haven't had any trouble with parts for my 01, other than not being able to find them all in Canada and having to pay the ridiculous exchange rates

Have you checked ebay? Honda in Troy Ohio I think usually has some good deals on parts. We just got a complete new top end for an 01 CR125 for $400+, jug included. All Honda OEM!

Steel framed NOS parts are either hard to find, expensive or non existent. I couldn't find a cylinder so I had mine fixed and replated.

I ended up finding one. Really strange the 05-07 cylinders are hard to get right now. Seems like the older models are not having any trouble.

I guess Honda must have overstocked on parts for their Elsinores back in the day as i can still get OEM parts for my vintage Honda's still in the old 70's packaging. Cables are no longer available OEM but Terry cable has that covered. Weird newer stuff is already out of manufacture and stock.
I guess when they went to 4 strokes they figured it was no longer worth it to keep a lot of 2 stroke parts on hand.
Motorcycle salvage yards are probably full of 2 stroke parts for cheap.

Motosport says the can get them $340. You even get to choose A or B cylinder.

2006 is not that rare and you should not have too many issues with parts. I have a 2001 CR125 and no issues with about 95% of parts.

That's only partly true. Honda will reproduce certain parts given enough demand. There's no way to determine how many parts to manufacture or how long a bike's "life" will be. For example, certain bikes might be more likely to be scrapped (i.e. farm bikes or scooters or cheap road bikes) than restored and maintained (like the Honda CR series).

Recently Honda is supplying GENUINE chain sliders for 1990 - 1993 NSR250s which are 2 stroke road bikes. They've been unsupplied for about 10 years or so, with most available parts being NOS. Honda also tend to reuse parts and have considerable interchangeability. For example, a clip in the rear brake was reused on the 2012 CBR250R. Convenient too because the newer the bike is the cheaper parts tend to be.

When Mr Honda was in charge, they would supply any part for any model no matter how old. It might have taken 6 months or a year but you would get it. Sometimes it was very obvious someone had gone and got the drawings out and actually sat down and made that part by hand.

Late 80's early 90's they introduced a 15yr policy,. (They might have reduced that over the last couple of years) They won't keep making stock after that period. What left is whats left. Although, for some really popular models they have reproduced parts for much longer than that.

I was speaking to steel framed parts in general. From what I have seen the aluminum frame bikes have most parts still available. I would have to imagine as 2 strokes make a come back the parts supply with dry up.

Check some of the larger Go Kart dealers who race. I know they carry a lot of 125 parts.
