I'm having electric start installed on my Honda this week and was just curious what battery people are going with?

Best bet is a good RC car battery that can slide into the back corner of the air-box.

But, I could be wrong.

I ripped a start from Egypt and I was happy about that.

LiFePo4 is the safest, custom high-discharge 18650 pack is next safest but probably kind of big, RC lipo is lightest weight, least expensive and least safe. How many amps does it take to start one of these bikes?

i went to ktm and purchased a WPS lithium battery.

I would NOT put a lipo battery in a bike laughing Hell, your supposed to put those thing in a fireproof bag when charging them.

How many amps is the starter pulling? Then you can decide which type of battery. Lipo's with a hard case and high discharge C rating will work fine. Problem would be hitting the starter button over and over draining the battery. That surge will kill the cheap lipo's.
Lipo's are good the only reason the battery fails and catch on fire is user error. Don't leave them fully charged or completely dead then they swell and cause problems.

Don't ever put lipo in the bike, battery will overcharged and catch on fire.

How much voltage does the charging system put out a 4s lipo will be 16.8 volts at full charge. If it's higher than that you can run a 5s lipo at a fractional state of charge. You would want some wiggle room in there with the max pack voltage to account for cell to cell imbalance.

You could even use supercapacitors. That would be lightest of all and they can hold charge in between motos, even week to week depending on your setup.

I bought a Lipo battery designed specifically for the crf450r from my dealer when I bought the bike. Exactly same size, fit etc.Its 2.5 lbs lighter than the standard Honda one for $60. Has to be one of the cheapest ways to save weight going..

Gawd....I think I still have like 12-14 5000mah 6S1P's sitting here at home. My 89" AJ slick took two ( 12v system ) , and got about 6.5 minutes of flight time out of it. Amazing how only a little 5S pack can start a damn bike.

And there goes Jeffro. One of God's own prototypes. A super high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

no, you can make your own choice, I like that. Or you can buy the oem if you want the Honda battery.

Lithium Ion polymer batteries are fine when treated correctly. Lead acid batteries blow up/catch fire too. Hell, there's a fuel cell between your dam legs that can blow up!

Things to note:
buy the best quality and get the highest CCA (cold cranking amps) rate that will fit for your application. Then learn how to use and maintain a Li Ion battery correctly. New technology doesn't come for free.

And get yourself one of these and set up a quick connect jumper wire weather proof plug under the seat or in the airbox so that you can fire the bike up with quickly if you run it down for some reason. It will even start your car.

Which battery is that? Still waiting for the kit to come off backorder. I'd like to get the battery first.
