I would almost call the 21 a refined version. Sure the plastics are new but it's mainly tweaks to things that have already existed.
On Steve’s intense Tazer MX pod Keefer said that nearly the only thing interchangeable is the front wheel.

I see this bike having issues in its first production year.
And why’s that?

This narrative about first year bikes is stupid. Every manufacture had to figure out how to build 4 stroke bikes and there was a learning curve. Considering how refined these current bikes are and where we are with technology in 2020 no one should be afraid of 'first year bikes'. Also the 2021 Honda has the same engine so there's most of your would be problems gone right there.

Bad reputations for first year bikes stick in the memory for a long time. The 97 CR250 was a long time ago, but people don’t forget. 2010 YZ450, same. What other first year bikes from back in the day were a big disappointment?

Nowadays, IMHO when there is a “bad” first year bike it’s really not that bad and easily fixed, not fatally flawed, but the small issues get blown out of proportion with mags and forums.

Don’t think there’s anything to worry about with new CRF.

HATED mine. Came off a 2007 RMZ450 that I absolutely loved. Never felt good on that Honda

Isn't that EVERY bike/car/anything in its first production year? That being said my 17 450 was pretty awesome and had no major flaws the entire time...

Agree. Came off a 2007 crf450, also a great bike. The only bike I haven't ridden yet to compare is a modern ktm450 (2016 up). The 21 KX450 is my second choice if this bike turns out to be a dud

Had a different experience. I got to ride a fellow riders 07 RMZ & didn’t like the bike. It felt big, heavy with a flat feeling to the top end power.
Had 09 & 10 CRF450’s with MDK & FC suspension work done. Sorting out the suspension work along with a Yosh RS-4 & remap transformed the bike to an excellent mx weapon.
The 18 & 20 (WE) CRF450’s currently owned are very good from the showroom floor.

I too felt that the 07 rmz450 was flat on top that I rode. I'm sure the newer five speed ones are better. Thing cornered great though no doubt. Rode 05 crf450 same day as RMZ, that thing is one of my favorite bikes I've ever ridden talk about Rev lol. Easily as fast as my 17 crf450. Felt lighter too honestly

I'm looking forward to the test also. I want to do some Florida trail riders races this winter and they are open and fast and my little 250rx doesn't have the top end it needs. I'm thinking about the 450RX. I hope its as good as my 250RX is.

Media is testing/riding tomorrow and embargo lifts the 17th at 9AM Pacific. Looking forward to breaking it all down for you and seeing what everyone else thinks as well.

The 2005 CRF450 was probably one of the best bikes made. If only it turned better. Thing had a monster motor with more tourque than anybody would ever need

I LOVED my 2010 (pretty sure it was a BNG bike) after a few minor tweaks. Stiffer fork springs, linkage, added extra oil to the trans side to keep the clutch from fading. Over 100 hours with 0 issues, never anything but clean oil and a clean filter.

My 05 and 07 Honda 450’s were the best bikes I’ve ever owned and ridden. Besides shitty rims lol

Did they have the Works Edition out for testing, or just the standard bike?

The initial tests are nearly always glowing. 8 months to a year later you start to hear about how this and that is not good and must be fixed.
