If you read between the lines, there is going to be a shortage of new 21's. Why do you think they are doing a re-run of 20's ? The obvious answer is they are short on parts or tooling for the all new bike. They want to have something sitting in dealers, given how hot the dirt bike market is right now, so just keep making the 20 model. I can't see any other reason for re-producing the 20 model than this. As to why production is constrained for the new 21 bike, would have to assume its Covid, but who knows. Easy to pump out more 20's as likely have plenty of available parts given they've been making that basic bike for the last 4 years.

They are only making enough '21 models to meet homologation (or a couple hundred more) is what I heard. '22 will be full orders.

Could be wrong, but I'd bet that's what's happening.

Sounds like they will be in very short supply. My dealer said the district was allocated only 7 2021 CRF450's. He was able to get one for a buddy and myself but has 3 more sold already. Estimated ship date is 9/29.

The way it should be like back in the day. New models come out at the end of the year.
Also I’d be curious to see the reliability of this bike as Gajser has had 3 DNF’s from bike malfunctions on the 21 model.
2 of those were engines (blue smoke so maybe electrical ;-)

Why? Do they have a glut of 2020 450s? Do they expect the 2021 to not sell? Are parts hard to come by because of Covid?

Seems weird to do a major redesign and not want to sell a bunch of them...

The last time I bought the first year of a major re-design was 1997 and it got me the steaming pile CR250 that year...I’ll wait until ‘22, thanks...

With all things, sometimes it is 2 steps forwards, 1 step backwards, but I think Honda (and manufacturing / testing in general) have gotten better at making sure the major redesign is actually better. It's also not like they turned the motor around...

Normally I don't give a ... if a bike looks good or not. However, this Honda looks sooo good that I think of buying one just because of its beauty! One of the most beautiful MX-bike ever

Agreed. Particularly as you age, never underestimate the joy-factor of what it looks like in your garage / in the back of your truck.

Funny it's not out on the track? It's normal to have a pre production run to test before finalizing the production run.

An American who races was involved in the no white number plate background decision. It was his opinion that everyone replaces them anyway, and white is hard to keep clean. Lot's of bikes have gone that direction this year.

Great looking bike. I wish it was a tad bit lighter but I think they have a potential home-run with that bike. Can't wait to see some reviews.

I did the same thing. I know a lot of riders liked the 97-99 but for me it was the worst bike I have ever owned and that’s somewhere around 40 bikes in 40 years.

I actually liked my 98. The 97 though, was like riding an aluminum log.

10k for a dirt bike , for any bike is a lot of money. I make an ok living, I'm baffled how so many people are crawling over each other to buy a new Honda. And a pipe, cool gear, a truck to get it to the track. Good for you guys. I want to hear people in this country are thriving. If I can't afford something doesn't mean I don't want other people to also.I just don't understand it.
As far as availability, have any of you been to Walmart or the home Depot lately? There is a shortage of everything. Including change. Don't you think Honda is effected sourcing material and parts too.

Planning and a budget. Told my wife from day 1 I will never be without a bike. Can't count my chickens yet as my 17 isn't sold though. I simply won't buy a new one unless mine goes.

In this case, thanking our current president for our killer economy that's allowing many Americans to build new houses for me to paint. Lol
