I hope they catch those jackholes and make them slowly (painfully) pay for it.
The Shop
It might not help, but it definitely wont hurt to share the info...
Side note: when new in 1914 it had 5.5:1 compression and the thing made 45hp...!
And the color isn't that original either unless this poster used the same bike.

Is it the bike or yet another yellow old bike?

And there are only 6 known in the world, so I'd say there are decent odds it could be the one in the poster too
Pit Row
many of those guys were, well, just paranoid.
Hide them in the basement, hang them in the attic, "don't mention the address, internet thieves will googleearth it
and steal it", yeah, right.
Sadly, stuff like this makes me kinda agree with them.
In the posts above, the stolen Gilbert bike is not the same one that is in the Mid-America auction sale ad that sold for $500k+. Look at the shape of the frame in the two photos... The Gilbert bike was Blick Wolters' race bike back in the day and it is a Cyclone engine mounted in a Harley frame with a Merkel fork, a popular combo back in the 20's. The one in the sale ad was a Steve Mcqueen bike awhile back. (Way before this recent sale)
Actually there are 12 known Cyclones and/or Cyclone engines out there, a few of the street versions and a few of the race ones. Gilbert's bike had one of the rarer ported cylinder engines built by the factory for the race effort. Maybe 300 of them were built between 1914-1916, few obviously survived war surplus metal drives and time.
Thanks all for helping to spread the word.
Yes, that was a rhetorical question. There are a lot more differences than just the frame. (tank, pedals...)
Thanks for the engine number. Maybe it'll prevent somebody from beating up some poor guy just because he has a yellow Cyclone...
