The 250 class for the outdoor series was a "true" 250 class? Where you could run your choice of a 250 two-stroke OR a 250 four-stroke? (The weight limit would be the same for both...allegedly...if something like that was actually going to happen.)

Yes it would. I would love to know the anual engine budget for a team like procircuit is trying to keep those 250f s running.

Sometimes I wonder what's more expensive...the parts themselves, or the FedX charges back and forth from race to race. They used to travel with engines, but now the airlines freak about it.

what are you, some kind of wise guy trying to start a 10 pager that'll surely end up in the dumbgeon?

The strokers would have to have a severe db limit so we could, once again, enjoy the sound of the mighty 2-stroke.

Wouldn't change a thing. The top 35 riders would still be the top 35 riders and they would all be on 250F's. It would give the two stroke die hards something to hang on for and continue the argument though. And that would be a good thing.

Great news for us. Really great news for Yamaha riders. The YZ250 is such a great bike!

J-Law on a YZ250 outdoors?

I used to see all sorts of parts going in and out of Raleigh, NC for Hendrick Motorsports. I specifically remember seeing a set of four complete wheels and tires, overnight proirity. I wonder how much that cost....

What if the common house-cat acquired weapons of mass-destruction

and instead of waging war against their brutal arch-enemies - meece - they opted

to start an all-out alley-battle with the cops and those fat-ladies that

race Rascals around in Wal-Marts.

the sound and smell of a 2 stroke at the races would be heaven

and the smell of napom burning cat hair would be cool too, rupert

I'd doubt that the top 35 would be on 250F's. The smoker has a definite hp advantage when equal displacements are compared, and any top racer would want that advantage over his competition. Unlike many of the locals, pros can actually ride a smoker fast. The only reason you saw them change to thumpers is because the rules put the thumpers at a displacement advantage, which allowed them to make more hp.

I'd love to see the rules changed. Maybe new bikes wouldn't be approaching $10K, and that would attract more riders to the sport.

Ban the Ratio Rite cups.

Oily two smoke fumes will destroy the atmosphere we breathe.

Make the world a better place for our children's children...clean burning four strokes forever.

The two strokes would dominate.

Brilliant, change the rules when only 2 companies are making 2 smokes.

The only people it would help is the privateers.

Honda or Suzuki would not allow their factory riders to ride a 2 smoke.

As you can tell from my avatar, I think it would be a great thing. I have had little interest in MX over the past several years and I think the sound of many 2T's screaming around the track would be just what I need to hear. BRING IT ON !!

John,

Doesn't the fact that this year 250F will be allowed to race against 450F's heads up kinda kill this argument? I'm all for two strokes but they are going to have to prove they are competitive.

It would definately be a confusing dilema for a lot of people, but it would certainly help the privateers and would make for a more even field. I love thumpers but I am all about the sport being more exciting and growing their fan base. If anyone can make it happen it's Mr. Coombs. time to start petitioning.

I would guess the shipping charges by far.And not the one time cost to the engine or suspension but rather the shipping over the life of the part. Odd shaped boxes, weight, insurance all overnight. From Torrance to New York, to Japan and back to Torrance.

Good question.

I don't think that many, if any, riders would choose the two strokes. On the elite level, 4 stroke technology has come so far in the past few years where as two strokes have been left behind. It is a nice concept, but in reality, the factory teams are 100% dedicated to four strokes now.

I like it. I'd like it even better if they also allowed turbo or supercharging to those bikes. A turbo 250F would crush a 2-smoke... Laughing
