I'm hearing that we'll likely have a random drug testing program in place for the outdoor series starting this summer under the auspices of USADA (www.usantidoping.org/‎).

I don't have all the details yet, but it sounds like there will be testing at a minimum of two rounds, and also some very substantial penalties for a positive test.

More on this when we get it.

Good, this is the way it should be. Will they be penalizing for "recreational" drugs also or just performance enhancing?

I haven't poked around USADA's site, but I'd guess both. The old AMA stuff used to be for recreational (and may have been more focused on flattrack back in the day). There is the Colorado round this summer...just saying.

and 'shougs.

I want to make a joke about Tony Alessi being the urine test observer, but I am not sure it will be well received.

according to their site, they have a blood test procedure in place. I wonder if the AMA will take advantage of that service, or stick to urine? Real interesting stuff here.

I dont think anyone will test positive for anything other than what's legal in Colorado, but even so, it still seems a little ominus and nerve-wracking.

I think it's a good idea. .if they switch up the methods and no one knows when it's coming...

All recreational drugs are on the WADA Banned Substances List.

Do you hear the sound of that creaking? It's the sound of Pandora's box being opened.

Back in 2009 JD Swanguen got disqualified from the American National Downhill MTB series after testing positive for marijuana by USADA so I would imagine it's still the same now.

Yes, in some cases depending on the sport and whether in competition or not.

Here's the WADA list. http://www.wada-ama.org/Documents/World_Anti-Doping_Program/WADP-Prohibited-list/2014/WADA-prohibited-list-2014-EN.pdf

I think a question might be if MX athletes are ever out of competition.

BTW, heard the same thing as Gibby a couple weeks ago.

I'm surprised no one has brought up the suspicious timing of RV's rumored retirement yet. #holeshot.

They have, and it's idiotic given that he's subject to exactly the same testing right now for SX.

Correlation = causation is the emptiest logic there is.

I'm staying out of this thread but I gotta say, that's a pretty crappy thing to imply about RV.

I don't partake myself, but I don't believe non-performance enhancing substances are any of their business.
That said, I'm all for drug testing. I think it's good for the sport.

I'm surprised that you're surprised by that. I was just bringing it because I knew someone would say something about it. I have nothing against him and will not lose any sleep if he retires. I just figured that would have been the first thing mentioned when anyone replied to this thread.

Yep. You just saw a warning shot. Some guys take the warning and run with it (like VI did here). Some don't. smile
