I’m looking to reduce the engine braking on a 20KX450 (while upgrading the Clutch) and would like the ability to reduce the engine braking from stock when needed.
Rekluse says by changing the red springs to blue you can reduce the braking, then change back to the red springs if you want to increase it.
Hinson’s slipper clutch model’s primary function is to reduce the engine braking, however MXA claims you can’t slip the clutch (by lever) when needed. Both manufacturers state their clutch reduces the braking, but neither were able to offer if one has an advantage over the other.
Does anyone have any experience with either clutch that could offer feedback between the two ?
Thanks!

In my experience, limited to Z-start Pro and CORE EXPs in quads, the Rekluse did not appreciably reduce engine braking once set up correctly.

I have had 6 slipper clutches. A Yoyo-Dyne in a Cannondale 440. 3 Hinson BTLs in KTM 450/525s, a BTL in a YFZ450 ATV, and a BTL in my current KTM 350 XCF. You could slip all of them completely normally. I've red that article several times and have never understood that statement as it is flat incorrect.

I'm a big fan of the BTL though, as you can probably tell. If you want to reduce the engine braking, it does a VERY good job of that that. It made my 350 front end feel light and flowy off-throttle, a lot like my 300 2T and makes switching back and forth between the 2 bikes a lot easier.

I did a Hinson BTL slipper clutch on my 300SXF big bore…. It’s so stinking awesome! Definitely will help engine braking for sure!
WS728 is very accurate with his post!!

The engine braking with the Rekluse is less than the others and is more controllable. I think it is the best of two worlds.

I use the Rekluce on my 450's to manage the engine braking. There is different color springs and weights that you can change. Works awesome. The other feature is just so when I have a rider failure I don't kill the bike. Other than that I use the clutch like normal. Have this on all my modern bikes. Great product!!

Ditto Tim507. Cx in my fc350 greatly reduced engine braking and eliminated stalls from rider error. It does require some retraining for gate drops tho since even with lever fully in it will engage at higher Rpms. If you are used to launching at a high rpm you have to learn to feed less gas and more front brake. I still get plenty of holeshots that way.

Look into remapping your ECU with Twisted Development. Much more efficient way to reduce engine braking. The clutch is just masking it, with ECU you’re actually removing it.
