Anyone else try to hide or purchase something moto without the wife knowing?

So I get a text yesterday from my wife (Oh By The Way I Found Your Hidden Bike) that she found my hidden new bike while I was out playing with the guys driving our RC rock crawlers and drinking beer. I had a bunch blankets covering it. I was trying to sell my older bike first, but came across the bike I wanted first so I tried to hide the new one until I sold the old one to justify my new purchase. I knew she would want me to sell the old bike first. Well I got caught and no damage control necessary, turns out she didn't care (so she says), but the things we do too keep the wife happy and feel guilty when buying our guilty pleasures.

Another time, in 2001, I walk out of a dealership with a new KX250 and brought it home showing my friends and bragging, there she drives up in the driveway in disbelief.. Wink We planned on upgrading her vehicle so when she saw I bought a toy for my self first, it was an awkward silence in the garage. It all worked out, went out and bought her the 4 runner she wanted in the next week. Just bad timing in the order of events. Wink

It not that I could not afford these things, I just feel so guilty spending money on myself sometimes when you have a wife and 2 kids.

Got a story, please share, I know some of you have done this!

I usually keep a few of my buddies bikes at my house so his wife doesn't find out about them lol. He's not allowed to bring them home unless he sells a few so if he comes across a good deal he drops it at my house until he sells one of his and clears up some room.

Girlfriend tried to buy the bike below in secret, and did a pretty good job until a week before she/we picked it up. I was able to figure it out when she would spend time talking to my Dad on the phone and asking me not to spend any money on my 06 RM.

Then she bought me some CV forks for it....so I bought this in secret.

No. I don't get this hiding shit. If you have to hide shit from your wife you either can't afford it or someone else owns your balls or you just chose very poorly.

Sucks for you that you have to hide stuff. My last bike I purchased a couple months ago was a 17 yz450f. The wife encouraged me to just do it, saying my 15 was getting clapped out. Guess a lot has to say in how you pick them.

My wife doesnt pay attention to how many bikes i have anymore. Although i just bought a $500 RC car and wrecked it within 30 minutes. She kinda got pissed and got to tell me "i told you so."

I just wouldn't spend that kind of money without talking to my wife about it first. But all of our money is "pooled", not separate. If we kept our money separate from each other like some folks do, that might be different.

I dont quite understand the hiding thing either. You gotta reach an understanding, but if you gotta hide your ride then you got bigger problems

I haven't even read all the posts yet, but my best friend is constantly doing this. Just in the last 2-3 years, he "took over" payments on a beat up 14 yzf450 from a friend. What he really did was bring home a 15 from Brandon at AHM that had 15 hours on it and too many mods to list. Name on the number plates and everything lol. Around that time he also had Brandon do a full engine rebuild on his other 450 without the wife knowing. I laughed my ass off when I went in his garage and saw a fresh engine sitting in a shallow milk crate with a shroud from a yz250 leaning up against it to "hide" it lol.

Before this he brought home a 95 cr250 that he was "fixing up for a friend". He goes all out, has a ton of boxes shipped to my house (happens a lot) and does a McGrath replica build. Once he's done he tells her that the "friend" wants to sell it to him for $1300 or something. She doesn't have a clue about any of it.

Not moto. Bicycle. Some years ago I'd pieced together a new single-speed without ever mentioning the necessary expenditures. Months had gone by and I thought I'd pulled it off until one evening I was being a good hubby and was helping fold laundry down in the garage and the dear spousal unit looked over at the row of bike hooks and commented, "Oh, by the way, I can count."

We must be related. I've got 2 currently "hiding out" at a buddy's shop. She knows about 'em----now, but it is better if they are not discussed. Laughing

Bros..... always be up front about what your purchasing. The price? That’s where you lie.

I got the “this exhaust is gonna cost 250” (and then I throw 250 of my off the books money in on the 500 dollar pipe) down to a science.

Amateurs....

My Wife just knows I have a blue dirt bike...that's the extent of it. I just keep buying new YZ's every couple years and she has no idea. I'm not going out of my way to hide anything, I just neglect to tell her that the blue bike in the garage isn't the same as the one that was there last year. It's just not worth the hassle.

i had a 2009 RMZ450 and told my wife i was headed out that morning to pick up a new 2015 RMZ450.

When she got home and walked past the new bike, she simply asked "i thought you were picking up a new bike today"

Twice...

First time was when I bought a new snowmobile. I had the thing hidden behind the garden tractor and under a bunch of blankets. She came home in the morning after working 3rd shift at the hospital and I was still in bed. Heard the door slam really hard and I knew exactly what was up. She got an engagement ring a few weeks later. Silly

Second time was when I bought my last bike in 2015. Wife said I could buy a new bike AFTER I sold the old one, well by then it was too late I had already made a deal with the dealer. Brought it home while she was at work and hide it along the side of the boat and covered with blankets and boxes. As soon as I sold the old bike the new one instantly appeared in the garage..Laughing

You are very wise. I like it.

My wife and I dont share bank accounts. We each work and pay fairly for household expenses and such. I dont care what she shows up with or how many times she does her nails or hair, or how many shoes she has, and she doesnt question any of my toys. I just go out and buy them and worry about finding room in the garage.

We are lucky we both work hard and can afford to pay our bills, save money, and splurge on some of lifes finer things.

Good thing is she likes boats so we went 50/50 on the boat!

There is a time to say please and a time to ask for forgiveness. Moto falls in the forgiveness category at times. You got to hold onto the aces and play them in times like these knowing she has an ace or two as well.

My wife knows that bikes in the garage are just part of who I am. I never buy new, always good deals on used bikes. Often times I'll make money as I sell them off or part them out. Right now I have 6 bikes; three years ago there were 16 in the garage (yeah, that was kinda' overkill). I think I'm going to keep a 125, 250 and 500. Maybe pick up a near-new 450 in a year. Maybe...

I did chose wisely. My wife surprised me with a brand new CRF 450 for my 30th birthday. She knew I always wanted a brand new Honda dirt bike. I was speechless.....

When I’m on the hunt I basically bug my wife to death asking her opinion on this bike or that bike off Craigslist or weather SoCal is to far to drive to pick one up. Showing her listings after listings.

Then she’s actually happy when I find a bike and can stop annoying her lol.

But yeah as long as bills are paid and there’s food in the fridge she don’t mind me saving up for toys.

98 CR250? Seems like she was spot on with her comment "you didn't!" GrinningTongue

Back to the original thread, I let her know I'm buying it before I buy it but I certainly wouldn't ask for permission. That's a slippery slope, and if I couldn't afford it I wouldn't be buying it.
