I didn't get to watch the second motos from Millville until last night (Japan time), so I stayed off Vital until I had the chance to see them.
Herlings' bike preparation was the issue.
His fork lock failed so he was hampered.
The Shop
We've seen a few fail in past times, I remember Cairoli had it lock up mid-race... it just hooked up. He had to stop, lay the bike on the ground and kick it off. Ready for your abuse, go!
Gutted for him, another year another injury while in the championship battle
Ivo's fault.
Looks like Monticelli jumps roughly the same length as Coldenhoffs & Febvre's jump. So it's not like he is overjumping, so cant blame him that he is overjumping when he is not.
Then you could say he should have seen that Herlings isnt making the jump and therefor he shouldnt have jumped as far as he did. But i wonder at what moment should he have been able to see that? Imo it's almost impossible to see that Herlings is having an issue. And that is when focusing on Herlings, while Monticelli will be looking at the track as well.
Lines up for 450 moto. Claims he took zero risk. It's a dangerous sport. Racing incident.
Pit Row
The newest video taken from the rear shows Coldenhoff jumping long, Febvre sorta average, Herlings short and then Monticelli long like Hoff.
Herlings had to feel the danger when he messed up the jump (due to start device or whatever) as the pack was launching behind him. If not Monticelli would have been another rider.
Herlings is unreal riding in pain like that.
DAMN, that was gnarly! Hope Herlings recoups quickly and can get on with his career. It shows how tough the guy is by gritting out a whole moto, at that level...with the pain of a broken shoulder blade!
Luckily, Monticelli doesn't let that bother him and is "happy with his riding".
