All Tony saw coming was another beating.

Herlings was not making any more mistakes on the track than anyone else.

Every rider out there is one bobble from being out for the season it's just the nature of the game.

Exactly.

Threw away two titles by getting hurt and almost lost out on another as well. Last year was a wash because he started hurt.

Herlings to undergo collarbone surgery: MXGP FIM World Championship leader Jeffrey Herlings will have surgery to repair a break to his right collarbone after a crash while practicing at Berghem in Holland today. The 23 year old is scheduled for a procedure at renowned surgeon Dr Claes’ clinic in the next few hours to fix a fracture near a plate that was inserted for a previous injury. It is extremely likely that the winner of 8 from 10 Grands Prix this season will miss this weekend’s Lombardia round at Ottobiano in Italy but then has a two week break before the Grand Prix of Indonesia on July 1st

They will plate that shit up, throw some Advil his way for the ribs, and have him go race. The championship will be a little more interesting.

Shit that bites! I feel Like a lot of people knew the potential for this exact circumstance was probable.

He'll be back for Indonesia and still have the red plate.

Probably, but this certainly opens the door for Cairoli if he comes back at less than 100%. It sucks but it breathes life into this championship.

Luckily it's only his collar bone. 2,5 weeks is reasonable with proper surgery. Cairoli could catch up to -12 points if he goes 1-1 this week.

It does bring some doubt as to the outcome. My guess is Cairoli will beat him a round or two but Herlings will limit the damage until he's back to full speed and will win the title.

This absolutely sucks. Godammit Jeffrey. Sad
He'll probably only be out 1 race man. But a bummer either way, he's been on a crazy level.

Over confidence can be just as bad as lack of confidence. Both lead to mistakes

My thoughts too. Riding in 3 weeks after broken ribs? Not me....I cried every time I laid down to go to bed and every time I had to get out of bed. Physical tears of pain lol. Wife told me I was being a pussy... lmao Seriously ribs and hands are the worse injuries IMO. Ribs sucked for like a month straight. I couldn't imagine riding a bike with broken ribs.

He'll miss a round and then be back and we'll have an even tighter battle for the championship.

And, Cairoli still has to go out and race and continue to ride in the week. No guarantees in our sport.

That’s the beauty of giving these guys a few breaks during the season. Guy can get hurt and still possibly stay in the title chase. Cmon fim/ama. Take notes. We all complain about riders getting hurt and the fields being depleted.. having week breaks every other round or two would help.

Cairoli just took his shirt off
This is the big point to come away from in this thread.

This couldn't be more true. A guy breaks a collarbone in the US and say goodbye to his championship hopes.

If it happened lets say next week instead of this week, he could line up for the round after.

The qualifying race in Indonesia is June 30th - 17 days from now. He has to have surgery, recover and then travel to Indonesia. This is a big ask if you ask me! Plus the one report indicated the fracture happened at the end of a previously plated fracture so the surgery may not be straightforward. I think things here are going to be not nearly as simple as "Plate it and gate it".

Here is the mxgp calendar:
17 Jun: FIAT Professional MXGP of Lombardia (I), Ottobiano
01 Jul: MXGP of Indonesia, Pangkal Pinang
08 Jul: MXGP of Asia (Indonesia), Semarang
22 Jul: MXGP of Czech Republic, Loket

That really sucks for him, especially with the fact that for the first time it is a kind of double GP in Indonesia with only 1 week in between the 2. Without that, he could have missed 2 GPs and go hunting 35 points.

Now, if reasonable, he would miss at least 3 GPs and his chances for the title would be almost gone baring similar disaster to TC.

So, as a few said, the strategy may be to take these 2,5 weeks off, go carefully, and lose some big points but staying in the title hunt.

That sucks. I really don't like when the riders put too much on the line. I hope the surgeon makes a magical repair and that he heals quickly.

Hope that's not the case. He definitely deserves this championship, but he's got to make the finish.
Deserve hast nothing to do with it. Cool

One race missed, then a 2 week break...and we know he can race in pain...shit he probably won't even lose the points lead.
