Seen in gatedrops interview that there are rumors of 84 moving up this coming season. Anyone know yet if this is going to happen? I think it would be a good Move for KTM with cairoli getting older and losing the title this year, It doubles their chances of winning the title in '16.

If it does happen I think Jeffery will be the champion.

Cairoli is getting older, he's not done yet and will be a title contender for sure but I personally cant see him battling for titles in one or two years.

Ktm have jonass and pootjes in the 250 who have quite good title chances (jonass next year and pootjes in the future)
I d love to see it but I can not see Coldenhoff in the top 3 consistently

So IMO it would be a smart move for ktm to have herlings move up (not even considering how long he has been in the class)

From what I understand it`s not decided yet. IMO KTM will have to form a new team if he was to move up, which is not that easy.

I thought ktm would just keep him under the mx2 truck and not the 222 truck if he went 450

I've actually changed my tune with Herlings. I was one of the guys bagging on him if he decided to stay down in MX2 , but you know what?...it's his career and he has many , many more years left to do the MX1 class. One thing I dig about certain riders is their " heart " , and when they show it , and how much it bothers them when they lose , then how can I not cheer for the guy? And on top of that , riding for a championship with the injuries he sustained last year , made me more of a fan as well. It'll be interesting in seeing what he decides to do this coming year.

I hope he stays MX2 this year and has a healthy year, after past 2 years he needs to rebuild mindset of dominating motos - 2016 has the potential to be the best for a long time so he might not dominate BUT he should win cgampionship if he comes out with proper determination

if he moves up to 450 , would be awesome , if he stays in MX2 would be awesome .... all i want is to see the old Herlings back , fit and go full throttle trying to win as big as possible ....that new mindset of dont need to win all races to become champion hasnt give him much last year or year before .... just get fit , get youre mindset right , he will be racing for wins in either MX2 or MXGP

I don't know about Herlings, but Gajser is riding the 450 next year. It'll be officially said soon.

Jeffery Herlings has released an update on his condition and hopes to be back on the bike in November. He has also not decided what class to ride next season.

Herlings said on Facebook:

‘Just would like to give all my fans a quick update as its been so calm around me lately. Mannn… This is a long road back. Since July 2014 its been a dark moment in my careere and life. At this time its mentally as though as physically. We are working hard to get back on the bike.. Roughly planning says I should normally be able to be back riding in 4 to 6 weeks from now. All injuries are taking care off and now its only my dislocated hip who is still recovering and next week my plate on the collarbone will also be removed. So we hope to be back on the bike somewhere half/end of novembre. Its hard knowing where we come from and thats winning in 2013/2014 27Gp’s straight and then having such a though come back time and being on the ground as much as I was last year. Obviously its hard mentally from knowing where I come from when nothing could go wrong to where I am right now. But it also shows me how hard life can be, and how fast things can turn around.

‘Also I lost a person who ment alot to me and was a strong person in my life the last 2 years but due some stupid mistakes I lost her @brittvoorn thank u for helping me the last 2 years and you will be missed in our team, team84 But I learned from many things as I am on the sideline right now and I got so much motivation to show all my fans. I really wanna show u guys I am still being able to win championships. I hope all my fans are still believing in me like I believe in them. We are all in this together. We will come back, and we will win. Which class for 2016 is not decided yet. Just wanna say a big thank u to my great team Red-Bull KTM Factory racing team and all other sponsors and partners for still in believing in me. And my family and close friends for never giving up on me. I love u guys.’

if he thinks that he can be 100% ready than he will move up especially after watching what febvre did this year. he's got nothing to proof in mx2 anymore.

I don't see it happening. Herlings is set for another year in the MX2 division.

Herlings says he has decided, but wouldn't say which class.

I'm hoping MXGP, would be strange if he stays MX2 when Gajser is moving up. But then again, he has had two seasons destroyed by serious injury so I can see the logic if he stays, but to me that would give Gajser the advantage once Herlings does move to MXGP.

If he moves up that will be three MX2 champs moving up at once, plus Guillod and BT, and all can run at the front. It could be epic if everyone stays healthy.

Yeah he was probably thinking "man I used to lap this guy a year ago and now he's winning everything"

Btw does anybody know more about the Gajser deal? I thought he goes over to race some supercross in january to prepare because he plans to race there fulltime soon. His switch to the 450 doesnt really make sense to me now

Let's cross our fingers and hope 2x World Champion Herlings decides to ride a support class for the sixth year in a row......

He hasn't said he decided it yet. He said that he needs to get healthy first, then when he can get on a bike (probably somewhere this month) try the 350 and 450 and then decide.

I hope he decides to ride MXGP, nothing much to prove in MX2 and no real contenders.

If his former contenders (30 seconds back actually) start winning MXGP-championships, it makes you think....

I just hope that he'll be back with full speed. MXGP would be more exciting choice though.

Tbh i think for the racing it would be great if he goes to MXGP. If he stays in MX2 imo the races will be boring at the front (unless he gets injured), so i'd prefer him to go to MXGP.

But if he wants to stay in MX2, fine by me. He is allowed to do so, and as long as it is allowed i'm fine with it. And it's not that in the past riders stayed away from the premier class for whatever reason.

* Eric Geboers stepped down from the premier class (500cc at the time) because he wanted a 250cc title
* Tony Cairoli had won 2 titles and finished 2nd and 3rd overall in MX2 and still came back to try to win a 3rd title in 2008.
* Alessio Chiodi finished 2nd overall in 1994 in 125cc and was still in 125cc in 1999 (when he won his 3rd title). He finally moved to a different class.... 125cc in the USA...
* Joel Smets had won 3 titles in 500cc and still did not move to the premier class at that time (250cc).
* Stefan Everts moved out of the premier class after 2 injured seasons in 2001
etc. etc.

IMO, Tony Cairoli will stick out the GP scene for a maximum of two more years. He started young, and is still capable of pulling off a championship. He has eight world titles now...why not shoot for ten!

I figure Herlings will step up to the MX1 class for 2017, as TC222 is taking his last shot at a title. I believe Cairoli will again be the MX1 World Champion in 2016...and possibly even 2017. I like Febvre, and he's damn fast...but he dominated a field without Cairoli being 100% through it all.

I really feel like Herlings needs to move up, and the only reason is because he has nothing to gain by racing in the mx2 class again. Not the idiotic Matthes explanation that he is sandbagging. What happens if he dominates the 4 first rounds and gets hurt round 5 like the last 2 years? He has proven that he is one of the fastest mx riders in the world. Start fresh in the MXGP class without pressure.

The good thing is that KTM might think that Cairolis chances to win the title aren't close to what they were 1-3 years ago and they will put their faith on Jonass and Pootjes in the mx2 class.

That's back when the 125cc (Now MX2) GP title was not an age limited support class thus forcing riders to move up. You had to race the competition who also picked to ride those classes. same can be said for the 250 GP title back when the 500 title was the top class. They faced real competition, not just the younger / less experienced riders who can stay MX2.That is much different from the MX2 of today.

Herlings might have started young but he is still by far the most experienced rider in the class. He has won two titles, swept the series, and been the preseason favorite by a mile for the past 5-6 years. 10+ top riders have moved up from MX2 to the premier MX1 or to the U.S. since he became the dominate MX2 rider. Including the current MX2 champ.

The good thing about the 23 year old rule is that the MXGP class is freaking awesome when everyone is healthy.

Pretty sure in a interview it was said herlings would stay under the mx2 truck on a 450. Not having to go to Tony's team
