“The Orange Flag Shall Be displayed to a lapped rider, warning that the top-three are coming through. You MUST pull to the side of the track until the top-three have passed. This flag shall only be displayed to lapped riders under circumstances where there is a battle involving the top three. Penalties for lappers not observing this policy and ignoring the flag, shall be disqualication.” And so, it was written. Burp.
The Shop
Honestly, if you get lapped before the half way mark, black flag em.
Can adjust that number some but thats the general idea. If you arent even remotely on pace you dont get to be on track. Safer for everyone
Some races may have 30-35 instead of 40. Id rather that then 10 dudes who are 30 seconds off the pace
Thats their fastest one lap in qualifying. And like you said many of them drop anchor quite badly in the motos.
Your looking at 20-30 seconds off the pace per lap for some of these guys. They dont even belong on the same track at that level.
Legit there were guys 30-40 seconds off the pace in 450 qualifying. Those guys have no business at a pro national.
Pit Row
And while the op’s suggestion sounds ok in theory, the reality is it’s not that simple as the flags don’t always come out with enough advance notice so trying to make your way off the track might cause more issues as they’d be forced to cut across the track and possibly right in front of the leaders. Bettering safer imo just to have them hold their line. Lastly, the orange flags as described wouldn’t have even made it out yesterday since there were only two riders battling for the lead rather than 2.
Just my 2 cents.
Deep field Bro..
I don’t have a strong opinion either way, but the high speed differential is dangerous.
Like a 90 year old on a 4 lane in the passing lane doing half the speed limit.
Lapped, get the black flag of shame.
Only top 20 score points anyway kind of interesting the 107% worked out to the top 20-22 or so.
So 9 riders.
There still will be lappers. But some of the 25-40th place dudes get lapped several times and really are just rolling road blocks compared to the top guys. They lap into the top 10 regularly so obviously will never get rid of lappers and that isnt the point of the rule in f1 at all its just to get rid of the hazards out there who arent even close to the pace.
an 'elite' only comp,
its what is organically happening in the us, with 20 or so guys able to run a decent pace and get a pay packet.
