I wonder if Steve Shmitz had his Granny knit his stocking cap?

And what's with 3 of them even wearing them anyway? I grew up in the same era. I had to wear mine when it was -10 degrees outside though. Must of been a California thing.

And, garagedog is right, why would Honda subject themselves to that punishment? Now back up 4 years and they were the king. In '77, not even close.

Great pic T.

I remember that picture! I had that issue of Dirt Bike ( that was purchased from the Piggly Wiggly ). Just a little kid from South Dakota wishing I lived in Cali like those lucky dudes.

Steven Schmitz should've been a hero.

Thanks for the mention. I do post stuff like this everyday on Instagram, but I'm just @tonyblazier on Instagram. The Motocross Vault is my YouTube page.

Flyin' Mike Brown. He became a daredevil and jumped all over until a horrible accident. I helped prep his bike before a jump he did at the drag strip on Oahu, seemed like a cool dude. He used a flatbed trailer instead of a landing ramp.

Recall the Florida Winter Mini Nationals in Jacksonville , Florida, 1973, the fore runner event that became the Mini Olympics. Mike was there kicking ass on the Team Allied Indians. One moto he crashed hard with another rider, right in front of where we were standing.

It appeared that he was knocked out for a brief period, but he came to, jumped right back on the bike, and finished the moto.

He left a lasting impression as a gritty , tough young man, that is still fresh in my memory after all these years.
