So I currently ride a 13 CRF450 but I'm out in Utah for college now and I didn't bring my bike with me. Looking for a 125 but a cheaper one like under 2k. Located in Orem, Utah and I have my truck so I can drive.
For $2k, you should be able to buy an 03-06 125 easy that is in nice shape. Or if you want to stay 4 stroke, you can get an 05 for $1800-2000. Ill have $3000 maybe even $3500 in my $1200 bike but Im not building it to sell. They are out there, check CL daily.

My crew all roll CR125's. We are old and fat, easily riding beyond our usefulness. I just got back into it a few months ago. Bla-Bla YZ. You CAN loop a CR125. Easily.
Fuck it. We agreed to always have a spare or two on hand... I scored 2007 "Little Sister" just last Sunday. Princely sum of $2400 from an honest to a fault lad on CL... The great part is a semi-common platform amongst us. My Red Bone® still hold sway. Nasty little fucker. I did a lot of work.
This is "Little Sister"... Clean as hell 2007 CR125RA
Going prices in VA are $1600-2400 for 05-07 CR's... The last one I paid $2400 but he had a veritable "Hit List" of receipts and once on it, I knew it was a winner.
I don't know Utah market, but around 2K seems sound anywhere for a runner. $2300 for a YZ of the same era.
Damn, the "My Little Pony" bikes are pricey.
EDIT: You are far better off buying from an experienced rider who uses/maintains the bike rather than a "Barn Find", especially with 125's.

Totally unrelated, but I just so happen to have one for sale in Missouri

Why not go home over " Whatever Break" and get your 450? Is it in another Galaxy?
Based upon my experience as a College "Stoogent", messing around with/on a 125 will interfere with PU**Y and your GPA. J/K!
EDIT: Rethinking the above, you are smart to not risk your 450 at a kegger
Remember parts availability and prices too... Honda and Yamaha are the most affordable.
