Im currenty using this 8+ year old helmet that says its a Large but ive tried on like Fox XLs at a moto shop and pretty much got my head stuck.

This is the tag

Most of the brands ive see stop at 25"

I have no advice for you but as someone who wears a XXL, I feel your pain.

It says 7 1/2 which is weird because that is the hat size I wear, but I wear medium helmets.

Maybe I'm just mistaken.

Wow, I know something about this topic (so does Nerd).

My oldest son wears between a 7 3/4 and an 8. He has tried on so many helmets. The problem seems to be that for many helmet manufacturers they only have a couple of sizes for the shell. The liners are different, but the shells are no bigger. Currently, he wears an HJC. It seems to fit the shape of his head. I believe it's an XXXL.

Ryo (spelling ?) at Honda Racing told me to get a helmet from Japan--I mean from Japan, not a brand from Japan--because the Japanese have big heads (he's Japanese, of course). I didn't follow up too much on how to go about this because Aaron got the HJC.

On a related note, there's a website called bighead hats .com with all kinds of different hats. It's the ONLY place I've found hats to fit him.

I used to be a medium but now I am a small
Now either my brain and skull are shrinking or they're shifting sizes to larger....small is now medium, medium is now large and so on and so on

As a guy with a xxl head and a small.......well never mind the last part....I can say that a large is not that unusual.

PS: low cost helmets like the one you pictured are notoriously poor fitting. Once you try a GOOD quality helmet you will never go back. The fit and way more importantly, the protection factor is off the scale compared to the $99.00 specials.

The old saying still applies: "10 dollar head , $10 dollar helmet"

Lol thats what my parents got me when i was young and now that i use it more then once in a while i need a better one. I went to a small moto shop and all the helmets were to small but they didnt have any big ones and only a few brands. I wanted to see which brands run big.

I'm the same way. 7 3/4 to 8. I have had good luck with shoei and hjc. I always wore hjc, but bought a shoei last time. I need a new one, just threw the shoei away. I think those two might be your best options. I agree with Terry, get rid of that knock off.

Most XL helmets are too small for me but I found happiness and comfort with a Shoei.

I'd check out Bell, if they can make a helmet to fit Stewarts head surely they can find you something.

...mic check, is this thing on? Check... 1,2

You need to find a big shop and just try on as many helmet brands as you can. Or a lot of little shops that carry different brands. You can talk all you want about which brand is better ... has more quality, etc but the bottom line is you're going to wear the one that fits best. Nothing worse than a helmet that doesn't feel like it fits right.

I just went thru all the major brands and for whatever reason the Fox V3 easily fit the best. And I've never been a Fox guy. Don't really care for their mostly black graphic designs either .... but that's what feels best on the noggin.

BTW - with some of the brands going with the ECE spec over the DOT/Snell spec it's hard to figure out what's best. Do a Google search on 'ECE vs DOT vs Snell'. Then you have to sort out crashing at MX vs crashing on pavement.

Now here's a thread where I can contribute!

I wear a size 7 3/4 to 8 hat (depending on the hat maker), and I wear XL-XXL helmets, depending on the helmet company.

I've found that Shoei XLs fit me really well, as do Arai XLs. I recently wore an O'Neal XL that fit pretty good, and I tried an AGV in XXL that was actually too big.

Shoei makes XXL, too. I know that. So, my recommendation is to go try Shoei XL-XXL and AGV XL-XXL.

I have tried other XXLs, but the Arai eems to be the only one that fits the shape of my head.

I have the same problem with gloves. Moose has XXXL gloves, and they are golden!

I've got a Bell Moto 8 XXL in Flat Black, new in the box with tags still on it. Was a warranty replacement from Bell for a lid I had a problem with, comes with fancy helmet bag and extra visor. I don't plan to do much MX next year and I already have two other helmets so this one is getting sold. If you're interested you can have it for $160 plus whatever the actual shipping cost is to you.

all Parts Unlimited dealers are AGV dealers, ask your dealer to get you 2 sizes to try. Good to know the XXL AX-8 was too big for Nerd (can u imagine we also have a XXL in that model).

When me and my brother were at loretta lynns, the people from arai, took measurement of your head and designed a liner to fit your head perfectly! i still have the helmet, from two years ago? i think.

by rule, you should really never buy a total off-the-shelf helmet size but always make sure you get the right cheek-pads and crown-pad sizes.
