It's no joke folks. Scotty Trimble passed away today at a cross country race, leading the pro class. Last lap didn't come through scoring, the sweep riders didn't see him, went out again, found his bike and his gear. They gathered some volunteers and swept the woods and found him face down in the dirt in some thick growth. We rolled him over and he was gone.

Scotty has three daughters and a wife. Keep them in your thoughts

Unreal. Sorry for the loss, and that you had to go through that today. Prayers sent to a moto brother and his family.

Racing in Texas in the summer is almost ridiculous. High humidity and no wind blowing is a deadly disaster waiting to happen.

Rip, prayers sent for the family in this tough time

This will make me focus more on how I'm feeling while riding for sure. I'm sure a lot of us like to push ourselves, but pushing too far is not safe!

Happened to me at Baja when I broke down. 2 nights in a Mexican hospital. Not fun

Sucks to hear about that. I feel for his family. But they can take solace in knowing he passed doing what he loved.

rip and condolances to his family, totally unfair for his daughters..

has it been officially noted that it was a heat related death?

i ride in the heat and take that stuff very seriously, i even carry a small battery powered fan, which can make difference when you are stopped in a place with no wind..

Didn’t a racer have trouble with the heat 5-6 years ago at the Red Bud national and pass away from it? Even with the medical crews around it may not be enough. Please learn from these incidents and pay attention to your personal condition out there riding.

I can only guess if there will be an autopsy, talking with others I have had a few people wonder the same thing as he was in great shape and has been doing this his whole life and should know when he is getting overheated. But I can tell you this, once he was located I helped turn him over and his body temp was still very hot and he was already getting rigormortis so he had been gone for awhile. I wasn't a close friend, only a racing acquaintance. I usually helped him with his hole shot device as my kid races the row behind him. But I liked the guy and it was pretty tough seeing him laying there. Tougher still was seeing his wife crying over him. It will be forever in my head.

Heat stroke/exhaustion is no joke.

I had pretty close to the same experience back in the 80's in a 100 mile hare scramble in South Georgia in August. 75 miles in I quit sweating. If it weren't for the folks in my pit stopping me from continuing when I pitted for gas at the end of lap 3 of 4 I wouldn't be here today. I was running 3rd overall at the time and no 21 year old is gonna walk away voluntarily. After all, we're all invincible at that age.

35 years later I still have no tolerance for heat and have never been the same when it's hot. I just don't ride anymore when it's over 90 degrees. It sucks but it beats the alternative.

My advice is to make sure the people around you can recognize the symptoms and put their foot down when they see them. And hydrate. Then hydrate again.

Riders need to be wearing gps and heart monitors...our cell phones can do this...its 2018 this should not have happened, he is gone way too soon. I can’t even express the ripple affect this will have for years to come and the pain we will all feel in his absence. I’m not a racer but there has to be some type of regulations for safety gear, just like helmet & pads, requiring some device to call for help or signal distress. Let the highest good come to all involved, let his legacy live on with every rider he can save.

This might sound ridiculous, its just an idea so don't roast me for thinking of a solution.

Does it make sense to have a misting system near the mechanics row where a rider could choose to ride through during the race? You wouldn't have to slow down, just pull a tear off.
