If RV wins the title, will he be the first guy to not qualify for a race mid way through the season and still win the title or has it been done before?

I can't think of a champ ever failing to qualify during the season. I can't think of a points leader failing to qualify, that is riding the LCQ and just crashing not getting it done.

It used to be a big deal the few times a factory rider would have to ride the LCQ. Of course, they used to have semis as well, so there were 3 chances to qualify, not 2.

Think of all the talent that will be out there next year, and then think that there are only 20 spots available!

I think next year they need to bring back the semi's or provisional spots for those in the top 5.

In previous years, the semis/LCQ system almost ensured that all the contenders would get in the race.

Provisional's are one of the dumbest things the AMA ever did. If you can't make the main event, then you don't deserve points. Give those points to a Privateer who did everything well enough to get in.

I do think it sucks that Windham would probably be the 2008 Sx Champ if there wasn't provisionals then. Reed had to use one that year and won by like 12 points. Windham could have been a champ but this dumb rule was in place then.

Provisionals are bullshit IMO. Are we going to start giving out provisional holeshots now too? Just looked that season up @Tanner. Reed won by 13 points and only picked up 9 points the night he used that provisional. Still would have won by 4. BUT, Windham was in front of him at Vegas (then 10 points down). If Reed didn't have that finish he would have been 1 point down to Reed and leading him early on. I bet Kevin would have given Chad the race of his life that night had provisionals been gone.

Next week is going to be a nail biter for this Villo fan.

He raced the heat and left a few laps in, didn't qualify and didn't race the LCQ. Explain how he made it to the main? Reed was listed as the 21st rider in the main event.

Just as with the illegal fuel issue, if RC didnt qualify he would have been allowed to race the main or at the AMA would have at least called a do over

Nobody mentions shit about provisionals or about bringing back semi's until RV did not qualify. Sure makes the season more exciting now doesn't it???

Heck NO to the provisionals. This is part of racing. If you don't make it into the main, you weren't good enough that day to do it. It's hard for even the top pro's to do it on every track.

RC DNF'd at one anaheim race when he was riding a honda, and still came back to win the title...not sure if it was a heat race he crashed in or the main....I think he got knocked out though....

I don't like the provisionals I think you should have to race your way into the main... That being said without semi's and such a short race for the LQC the format poses a threat of keeping contenders out of the main, which I don't like. Racing incidents happen, if RV got a better start he wouldn't be in the predicament that he was in. Just like if JS got a better start he wouldn't have got tangled up.

All I know is this championship just got real again.....

Nope that was 86 Ricky Johnson won the tile. Wardy broke his throttle cable in the Heat race , In 86 they had a new rule in which the rider that finished last place in each of the 4 heat races were DQ`d . They fixed the rule in 87 lol.

85....lol....i cant remember if he got black flagged or they did not enforce the rule and Glover ended up losing the title . Its been a while since I watched that race . Smile
