Have not rode for 6 years due to serious medical reasons and kids. Finally starting to feel better and was debating throwing money at my fresh 2012 with 30 hours, or get a new YZ450F /250F as I can get a blue crew deal through an old sponsor

I used to get new bikes every year and noticeable improvements really started slowing down from year to year.

My 2012 was dialed and fresh when I stopped riding, are the 19's night and day better????? Honestly I thought about even a new 250f as I am 10 surgeries deep on my wrists and double fusion is entering the conversation with my doc.

I appreciate any feedback, be nice I think I am mentally soft right now LOL

I would say yes when you are talking about a 12 vs a 19 YZF. A suzuki, not so much.

Holy heck Show , how you doing!!?? Been a long time brother. I'm really sorry to hear you had some medical issue's going on. It sounds like you must be healing up pretty well if you're looking to get back into riding again.

As far as the newer bikes go , I would say they all made some major improvement's from 2012. 450's now feel ( size and weight wise ) like the older 250F's , and 250F's have jumped up on the power output , and are no joke either. They have all pretty much changed basically everything.

Myself , I'm on a solid 2 stroke diet for now. Have a couple new Husky's sitting here and an 06' RC Replica RM250. May get a 250F or 350 next year , or maybe I'll just stick with the 2 strokes? Not sure. Actually all loaded up and heading out for a practice day in about 30mins.

Good to see you back , and take care of yourself my man.

And there goes Jeffro. One of God's own prototypes. A super high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

From my experience I'd say some gains in advancement, but not big gains like early 00's to 2012 for example.
I had a 2010 450 that was dialed & sold it to buy a 2018 model. While I feel it is better in every aspect an mx bike is judged I didn't think it was $5K (in value) better in comparison to the older model.
If I was to do it over again I would have just rebuilt the older engine with a HC piston & mild engine mods.. Just my $.02..

Speak softly and carry a big stick.

99% of weekend warriors will turn exactly the same lap times on a well kept 2005 as a new 2019. That aside the fun of the sport has many layers. Having a trick bike and gear makes you want to ride more and also enjoy it more.

what exactly are we supposed to do to bikes to continue evolution? They are already 150% too fast for us, should they have rocket boosters or something?

for the 8-11 K they are getting the refinements have continued however let’s use the RMZ 250 as an example. They shipped the bikes with springs in the fork that are too stiff for the bikes primary audience. So stiff Ping could not tune it out. A new spring has to be purchased. That’s unacceptable to me. Just an example. I’m still bitter my 13 RMZ came way over sprung. And the unusual SSF. Cost $600 to make a new bike track ready. I can’t accept that. Sorry. Old feelings coming back around.

250f’s yes. 2012 vs 2019 yz is night and day. Get the 19. 450’s not so much but estart is a big deal today. If you are talking yami only get the 19 250f. Great bike so fun to ride.

Bingo. This man gets it.

A clean and dialed 2012 is an awesome platform. You are better off getting in shape and honing skills, that will get you way further than any new 2019 bike.

Dang Fro, 23000 posts you are pro! thats interesting on the size.....I am 6' so the size of my kxf never bothered me I almost liked it.

Ha that RC replica sounds awesome I bet it sounds awesome! I do have a 2 stroke semi restored 1987 CR250 that is fun to ride, LOL it really is. Yea shoot I can not do the clutch and throttle work I used to so hoping the roll on braap of a 4 stroke would be better for me at this point.

Yea man I am really hoping for a great season and to get my 6yr old son riding.....I am hoping he just cruises and does trails and stays with the fun of it instead of going full psycho like his dad!

Appreciate all the opinions everyone, it definitely me leaning toward dialing in my 2012, shoot it only has 30 hours a full hinson basket and suspension that is re valved and working well.

My BTO cart has a PC slip on, Works connection elite perch, and oem clutch cable, a new Gen kxf front number plate and fender so far. Roost mx pre-prints, and new shroud graphics, fresh tires, new clutch plates in the works.

Any other bolts on's anyone has tried, that was really worth the money freshening up a older model bike like a 12'????
