fell for in the main event. To be honest, I have never fallen for or used this "technique" at anytime. It must be an east coast kinda thing.

Craig learned that move in the 2011 regional series.

Did Craig admit it was on purpose? He didn't get a great start so I bet he didn't do it on purpose.
An intentional or an unintended move on Craig's part...it seemed to work.

Imagine if he meant to do it. Smart as can be haha. I used to go into the first turn dragging my leg kicking up as much dust as possible.

Just be glad no one rubbed a potato on your car and stuck a key in the tailpipe

East Coast trick or whatever, I tried it a few times for shits and giggles at local Dist 34 races way back in the day after the introduction of backwards falling gates. Unfortunately, it takes away from putting 100% into ones own start and I realized since the one real skill I had in aces was getting a holeshot, screw all that BS and just focus on getting the start.
Did I ever fake someone out, absolutely, did it help me, not one bit.
I never watched the bar or the rider next to me.
If I could somehow get a view of the starter in the box (poorly designed enclosure or none at all), when his foot moved, I dropped the clutch. Those were huge holeshots. If not, I look at the pin at the bottom holding up my gate.

It seemed like the gate drop delay was a little longer than usual. I wonder if Craig did it on purpose or if he flinched but managed to catch it before he got stuck.

Back in the 80's at a desert race (Mattawa 100) in the starting row a guy about four bikes down from me flinched like that before the cannon went off and managed to panic start all 800-1000 riders. They had no choice but let the race continue with no re-start.

When my son was in 50’s we were doing a winter series race at Freestone. They dropped the gate but it only fell a few inches. All 40 of those little guys got stuck in the gate. It was pretty damn funny.

The riders said the gate flinched, looked like Craig caught it sooner than the others.

I find it hard to believe that it wasn't just the gate flinching.

About as great as your mom and dads decision making.... Way to take a fun response and assume the utmost retarded view. Was I ever super fast with a pro career in front of me? No, but I did race B then,+25A, and then 30A and 35A after that.

When it goes wrong..

(A bunch of guys went early and hit the gate. Hence there being such a spread just 50 yards out of the gate)

This wouldn't have happened if he was counting to 5 like Mike Alessi.

Watching these races, the way guys try to ram the forward drop gates is unreal.

To win championships you gotta bring the whole bag of tricks...and use them. The trick is to do it without looking like it is dirty.

This season is yet to delivery some serious drama and I'm content to suck it all in whilst sitting on the sofa.

Sadly, i have to keep the coffee running all night to stay awake.

Never used the gate flinch method, but I have been known to brake check my best friend on more than one occasion. The trick is to find a really deep rut and get in there as fast as you can, like you're really hustling to stay ahead of the guy. Then you stop. And wait. When you feel the bump from his front tire, wait some more. Wait for bump #2; that's him hitting the gas again to try and rebalance. Wait for bump #3; that's him falling over. Then roost him on your way out of the rut. Grinning
