Probably to replace Garrett Marchbanks. Weakest PC rider I’ve seen on a PC team.

Marchbanks has another confirmed year on his contract, he’s back in 2020.

You must be new to the sport. They've had a few duds in their past. Garrett is still very young.

Podiumed in SX, fastest in practice at hangtown.....sure, he’s not lighting the world on fire, but that’s pretty solid for a rookie year in my opinion

I think Marchbanks won't be 18 until Oct. As far as I know BH is already 21. In the next 3+ yrs will Marchbanks be able to produce or exceed Hartranft's results? Probably so. I don't think those 2 guys are that far apart right now and if I had to choose, I would stick with Marchbanks if I were PC.

Not for a PC Rookie. Mitch’s guys usually run up front from the get go. That’s why they are there.

I’ve been around the sport since before Team Peak. Sure he’s had a few duds, but he’s definitely on a learning curve. Not typical of Mitch’s guys.

I guess this is more to the point of the thread than Marchbanks level of success. Who was the last guy Mitch picked up that wasn't either: (a) proven podium guy or (b) top amateur prospect?

How about 2016? Alldredge and Tonus? When was the last time you hear their names?

Marchbanks isn't a rookie, this was his 2nd season.

He raced outdoors last year

Tonus is 4th overall in points in 450 GPs. 6 podiums and counting this year.

It may surprise you but Mike Brown sucked so bad Mitch fired him midseason. Yup...

Alldredge came to PC as a celebrated amateur and Tonus was an MX2 winner.

Can you recall, didn’t Mike fade bad back then?

If correct, that’s hardly what I think of when I think of Mike’s career.

Regarding Marchbanks, here's his LL resume:

https://llvault.racerxonline.com/rider/garrett-marchbanks/races

Not exactly packfill. Maybe he got moved up a bit too quick and could have did with a season of A in 2018, but he's still a solid prospect. No worse than Alldredge at this point IMO. EDIT: And if you go back through Marchbanks' LL results, he's handled a lot of the big prospects quite easily along the way at LL. I say give him some time, a lot of his peers are just turning pro right now. He really did go up a bit early.

As for Hartranft, he totally deserves a better ride but he might get boxed out by the amateur kids coming up. Geico and TLD have a train of amateurs coming up. PC should have Jordan Smith, Forkner, Marchbanks and Seth Hammaker for 2020, but I'm not sure if Hammaker is starting SX or at Hangtown. There's also been rumours about Jacob Hayes to PC, but if I was Mitch I'd take Hartranft over Hayes for the age difference alone.

My memory struggles a bit but I think you're right. He was in a box van on a privateer Honda at the nationals the 2nd part of the year. I think that was the kick in the pants he needed to get on track because speed was never a problem.

I'm betting Marchbanks is going to shut everyone up in the next 2 years. I'll necro this post on 8/4/2021 to see where he's at.
