How in the world does a track or promoter build a jump so large that the Pro 450 riders don't jump it? Do they not test this stuff? I refer to the triple step up jump that only Adam on the 250 tried in moto 1 and Tomac so far.

It might be a case that because of the rounded third jump that it is just as fast to double, without as much risk.

Because it's an impressive feature to have for people to check out.. who care's?

So many bitched and whined about that jump and the halfpipe.. the halfpipe is a cool and different thing and the jump is really a non issue.

Nothing like Supercross at Hangtown today! LMAO

Tomac was jumping it with ease. AC almost made it , the rest need to nut up and entertain us.

Maybe 145 feet would be better? Adam came up about 5 feet short the first time! He went for it though.

I thought it was ok. Allowing the elite riders further opportunity to separate themselves while still providing a safe alternative that's just slightly slower

race day is alot different than press day, plus is a short gap to the jump as well

Not a fan... The section that was there used to be cool, got rough, was a good place to make up time etc.

Same with the step up before that hill near the old finish line, when it was a rough hill it was a great racing spot, that hip jump makes it follow the leader.

Actually quite a few jumped it, they prolly just don't show on TV. I saw Tomac, Dungey, Peick, Anderson, Pourcel (I think), and some dude in 30th or so. Tomac and Dungey did it every lap tho.

150ft is not that big, all of the top guys shouldn't have a problem hitting it. I think its the fact there is no run up going up to it. Its a short run out of that right hander.

Too big? Double and roll it, hell that's what I do with every triple anyways!

It doesnt seem like a dangerous jump, just a hard landing if you come up short but you will survive.

The dude in 30th or so was Jumpin' Johnny Jelderda...on a Vital MX project bike. Wink

As for the jump, it was actually bigger before the race. A couple Dirt Diggers that I talked to said they actually trimmed it down.

Like others above said, it was doable for the guys who wanted to put in the effort to jump it, and safe for the guys who didn't.

I think he was running 215 on his plates, yeah he made it clean almost every lap traffic permitting.

On lap 3 when Peick finally hit it you could tell by his body language he was thinking "holy shit!!!!" Tongue

Yes I think they did trim the jump down. But that is my point. How the hell do the "Best track builders/Promoters" in the world build a jump that the Pro riders can't make? The only time they cleared the jump was after they trimmed it down.

If the top pro riders can't make it then your building it to big. That was my point. Not to make it really small. At least the top 20 riders should be able to make it. So if it was 150 feet then maybe consider 140 or 145 in the future.

Now with that said, had a rider cased that jump and crashed everyone would be crying bloody murder.

IMO they could run a split lane in the corner before the jump, inside you do the double, outside you can get the speed for the triple, maybe add something to it that makes it impossible to do the triple from the inside. There wasn't a ton of time difference on doing the double or the triple. That uphill double that many people were struggling on was much more of a time saving leap.

I like split lanes for that reason. As a slower rider it is nice to know I can take a lane and the guy trying to triple won't land on me!

Moving to Portland next weekend!

It was weird they didn't show it more during the race, but watching Tomac land the downside perfectly smooth was a thing of beauty!

I agree, if zero to 3 riders in the 250f class even attempt to do the jump and 37 to to all 40 can't do a jump on the track, and 1 out of every 7 riders in the 450 class try the jump then you're f*ckin jump is too damn big!!!

I thought the aspect of it being a HUGE hit with a totally safe alternative (that wasn't that much slower) was great!

It is too big. It needs to be about 125 feet so everyone can jump it. Even the 450's were stretching it. It is too big.

Yes after they fixed the jump and trimmed it down. During practice it was bad. They were not clearing it at all! Not even a 450 cleared it in practice. Once they trimmed it down Eli made it look great in the race.

Let's see

First, tracks out there tend to build their tracks like the tracks they see on TV. Second what happens if the jumps keep getting bigger and bigger and a Pro rider dies at a race? Will Congress get involved and start shutting down tracks and OHV parks? Who knows right?

Motocross does not need 150 foot jumps. Just good tracks, good racing, and good people. Safety should be a thought!

Also for you guys who only watched the race we are not talking about the race. They fixed the jump before the race because the riders could not clear it in practice.
