Mmm...I don't think it was any slimmer than usual. Pick a rut, any rut. Wink

They got to ride following the amateur day program, and the track was particularly chewed up. The ruts and bumps will form up differently for them than the ams.

James Stewart just watched this and high-fived himself for deciding not to race.
WOW, that track is nuts with the ruts.

Lots of sand and rice hulls this year.. There were races ALL day on the track and they did not groom it for the pro practice at 6pm yesterday. But id say to expect it to be rougher not as rutty (no rain for 3 days now) in the second motos.. Its gonna be good. Heading out there in just a bit.

Nice 1 GuyB,

the track seems slim or is that me?
Wide angle GoPro will make it look narrow.

there were NO jumps. I'm assuming that we ALL could get ou there on that track and do EVERY jump, be rutted up like crazy but we could do it. Now those SX tracks, I wouldnt even attempt!

Pretty fast rider in front of him, seems it was either Alessi or RV (watch at 2:07). Damn, MX is cool.

I hardly recognized the track with all the trucked in sand. Not so natural terrain there anymore.

Yep Hangtown is getting more and more homogenated every year. Bummer.

That doesn't even look fun. I'd want a refund due to lack of track prep and the unsafe conditions...

They all are. Riders from the 70's through 90's had to deal with really different tracks back then. Sand, hardpack, rocks whatever. The tracks are now bastardized, look at all the hard spots coming out of the ruts. Too bad.

The track does tend to be narrow in spots and I think it would help to widen it a bit. It's ironic because the track was wider than Buds Creek when it first went to Prairie City from Plymouth.

I'm pretty sure some of the native hardpack will work it's way up in spots over the day. Big fan of sand, not as much of rice hulls (they really do add to rutting up with the clay), but that may be the holdover from bike cleaning nightmares from Argyle back in the day. Not fair to judge based on the end of amateur day racings; the prep should be pretty nice.

What, zee Germans??

I hope Shorty shreds it on the 350. After reading MXA's article on his bike I'm thinking about one again.

They might groom it different for the Pro day, and also remember that Pro's will be making the ruts and lines not C/D class riders. The track will be rough/rutted but I think it will flow a little bit better than on the video.

Doubt it will stay that way for the motos. Clearly its just a bunch of fill on top of the usual hard base. Should be good though - no matter what you think of the track itself there's usually good dicing at Hangtown.
