Alright - since not EVEN the local dealer knows which trans oil I can and can't run in my 2018 KTM 150sx I'm turning to you all.

Don't lead me astray haha

Can I use this for my transmission oil changes on my KTM 150sx - Keep in mind I never go more than 2-3 hours without an oil change.

Thanks!

That stuff should be fine if that's what you've got available.

There are a lot of transmission oils out there to choose from. Anything 80W to an SAE 90 should work fine. Just make sure it is wet clutch compatible.

The Service Manual should recommend Motorex Top Speed 15w50

I've run that stuff in my 05 kx250 and my 98 yz250 for a while now. We got a few cases a while back and it does the job. I've never had an issue with it

Hey, so I don't think that oil you posted is correct.

The KTM doesn't have separate engine oil and trans oil.

I've been using Rotella 15/40 for 60 hours and she's holding up nice! If you want a moto brand, check out Motorex, Motul or Maxima for 15/50

Yeah it's the same tranny oil I've been using on all my YZ, CR, RM two strokes over the years and it's always been the cleanest when changing it. Just making sure I'm not out of the loop on something different the KTM 2 smokes require for the engine oil.

Thought you had a tranny gear failure recently?

I had a tooth break, but it's the same gear that everyone had a failure with. They replaced the part number with a new one. Bearings, clutch and crank are solid after 60 hours. I couldn't imagine a gear breaking because of an oil.

I use Rotella in my 250F, over 100 hours and no broken parts.

I use cheap oil from the Farm supply place in the wet clutch.. 40 bucks for 5 gallons. Never a clutch issue or anything in a few decades.

You guys change the tranny oil on a two stroke every few hours! Why? Bored and nothing better to do?
I owned a 2010 150sx and put 140 hours on it. Since I wasn't a big clutch abuser I changed the oil every 30 hours. I tried a motul tranny oil once but used standard motor cycle engine oil (think it was motul 10W-40) because I liked the clutch actuation better.

@ CarlinoJoeVideo: KTM two strokes have seperated engine and tranny oil. The tranny oil is in the tranny and the engine oil is in the fuel ;-)

Go to your local wally world and pick you up some valvolin 10w30 reg motor oil. Had problems with sons stuff till Hinson told me to do this. And at $4 a quart you can change it very often. FLAME ON!

shell rotella is a diesel engine oil? i know people have their quirks and that it is good oil but i wouldn’t ever put that in a dirtbike. Just use motorex like the manual says. Especially with a 150 using the clutch so much you need good quality oil to keep everything cool and lunricated well.

More people use Rotella than you’ll ever believe.

Ford ATF is also an acceptable alternative.

I for some reason noticed a chatter coming from my bike when I tried using Rotella on my 2013 250sx.

For the next 150 hours or so I used Lucas Oil, Maxima,Motul, Bel Ray etc and have never heard that same chatter again. Yes I used the correct Rotella.

Now I just ordered a case of 12 Amsoil tranny oil and am excited to use that.

I use the motorex since it's recommended, though finding 15W-50 is difficult even at my local KTM dealer sometimes. Talking to the guys there, a lot of riders that come in that shop are using the motorex 10W-30 as an alternative in the 125s and 150s. When the 15W-50 isn't in stock I use the 10W-30 which is more often than not. Havn't had any issues, bike is at 35 hours and change the oil every race, or every other practice ride.

10W-30... isn't that really thin? Dry

Figured I'd chime in.. I used Bel Ray gear saver transmission oil for awhile. Really good stuff, but about $13 a quart. Heard about ATF type F at Walmart for $3.50 a quart. Compared them both and it's almost the same thing and works really well, clutch is super smooth.
