He can't cause other riders earned permanent numbers and they scored more total points than him throughout the year.

Only 1-9 are permanent numbers....10-999 are given out in order of overall points. "Except" for career numbers like Alessi #800 , Reed #22 and so forth. Sucks though....I kind of dug Hahn having that 310 on his bike.

You know.......it's gonna take some big balls for a rider to take that #4 number when it comes out of retirement here in the next 1-2 years to. I think even if I had the points to take it......i think i'd leave it alone.........them are some awfully big shoes to fill.

Why do most riders choose lower numbers as a career number?... Proof that the old numbering system meant something. Just sayin.

It is confusing as hell ! I did make a little mistake on my last post. the numbers 10-99 are the ones given out by the points total. usually most of the numbers from 100-999 are AM numbers that riders get to keep until they break the top 100.

Also......( and i don't think it's in effect any more ) but i remember the AMA used to have 100-120 reserved for over seas riders coming over here to race and former fast guys racing some events as well.
