At Washougal you got a chance to ride for Factory Yamaha. How did all that come about?
At Red Bud, Guy B asked if I wanted to do the 2010 Yamaha YZ250F intro at Washougal and of course I wanted to do that. I flew up that week before Washougal and rode for a couple days. The last day, I was putting in a long moto and they were watching me. I came back and they all surrounded me and asked if I wanted to ride the Factory Yamaha 450 that weekend. They were all really cool guys and I appreciate them giving me that great opportunity, as well as, Guy B inviting me up there for that.
Didnt do to well...33-19 on the day. Qualified 36th...sorry nice guy or not, hot gf or not he does not deserve a factory ride.
Pit Row
Making the jump from 250 to 450 (especially in Supercross) is a big one, and can be a recipe for injury, rather than success.
What has caught my attention about Champion over the last couple years is that he keeps finding a way to get back out there and keeps giving it a shot. Couple years back he came in here looking for a little help to hit the nationals. Lots of people gave him a lot of shit but it got him noticed. What quite a few people here took notice of was that he could actually spell and form a sentence. No typing in text, ALL CAPS orrunningeverythingtogetherinonelongunpunctuatedlineofjibberish. He always seems to have a good attitude and always seems to be smiling. Those two character traits could do some teams a lot of good by themselves.
Regardless of what he won last year on the 350. And if he doesnt get hurt trying to race supercross...
to answer your question, does MA deserve a 350 factory ride, no, he deserves a 450 ride, especially now that Tony is out of the way...if KTM doesn't put him on a 450 for the outdoors, they are idiots.
Seems like he could do some good with some support. Who knows. In the first two events his best times were about 3/4 seconds off the top pace.
