I found this to be very informative and frustrating at the same time.

The most shocking thing about that video is how many bikes they have in stock.

You guys in Ca. will have to pay cash for your non compliant bikes. With no registration if your bike gets stolen, your out of luck.

Agree. I've ridden some places where the hill climbs (even what would be easier ones) are virtually undoable because those clowns sit at the bottom and just spin their tires making huge holes that kill any momentum you'd need to have for a bike to make it.

All states need to ban them. They have destroyed trails here in Michigan. Constantly trying to squeeze down systems that they are to wide for.

There's no ban on buying them, we can walk into a California dealer and buy one completely legitimately. Whether it's registereable also has no bearing on theft, you would just report the VIN as stolen as with any other bike.

Can one get reasonable priced insurance on something that is not registered?

Why would you be out of luck? I mean, most people that have stuff stolen are out of luck, because the thing they had is now gone, but why would you be more out of luck than normal?

I wonder how this is going to work for transportation? I know that's something that's not really enforced, but every now and again it pops up.

No problem with that here in Minnesota.

Me? My bike is a green sticker crf450r from '04 and I paid $2k for it after the mortgage crash, so...I have some tools that are worth more than that. I'm not exactly a "new bike guy".

I’ve got an 03 CR250 I paid $1200 for back in 08. I have plenty of tools as well worth more than $1200 as well, doesn’t mean I wouldn’t miss the bike if it disappeared. Lol. Then again I’ve got About 10 times that amount in that 03 now. Have the same if not more in that bike than I do my 2022 CRF450 lol. I have trackers on all my bikes, had one stolen when I was kid, went without a bike for 9 months. Never again.

But do you have trackers on your $1200+ tools? Tweekers looooooooove tools.

I'd definitely have one on a $10k+ bike though.

Not true you can still finance no problem at all. Literally my father in law went into a dealer and financed a 2022 crf450rwe. It still has a vin and other stuff it’s just not registered. Can probably still insure it even but hard to say how that works and I’ve never insured a single dirtbike so have zero experience.

Also stolen bikes are rarely recovered, they are too easy to pass off so many people don’t care about a title or registration that ride on farm land or just tracks out of state.

On another note ALL bikes 2021 and older previously red sticker will now become green sticker on Jan 1st 2025 and can ride year round, until then then they remain standard red sticker rules.

I do not, but then again all my tools are at my house, and do not leave my house, and I’m self employed so 90% of the time I’m home. Only leave to go on vacation, go out to eat, go ride my dirtbikes 😂 and I have 10 cameras all around my house, which probably aren’t even needed, I’m in a pretty quiet neighborhood. Just paranoid. 🤷🏽‍♂️ Plus, living in Texas, not many people try ya. They know most are packing some heat, that of which I am😊

Oh dude, it's amazing how many home invasions there are all over, even Texas. You'd think they'd know better in any pro-2a state, but there are just too many dumb mf'ers out there. I don't think you're paranoid at all.

Anyway, I finished the video and I see they're giving out an certificate of origin. That's fairly common in the street world for race bikes, but people sometimes turn t hem in for a title and registration. They must be doing the VIN thing again as a flag. I wonder how many people will suddenly have a fake second residence in South Dakota...

So according to the CARB link below, 22-24 models will not be legal except for closed course competition unless they are green sticker bikes. In 2025 all previous year bikes will be legal. Though there is a rumor that the DMV is ignoring the carb ruling. Kind of like 1998 all over again.

Clarification: in 2025 all 2003-2021 red stickers will become "green sticker" (actually just sticker, as there will be no more red and green just sticker and no sticker).

According to the written plans 2022-2025 bikes are no sticker now or in 2025 or ever, but like you say the DMV is pulling a 1998 so if that whole cycle repeats there could be an amnesty for them in the end.

Idk what kind of insurance people are buying that depends on an off road registration. Insurance is pretty much always only based on VIN number, but my bikes are only covered by homeowners when stored at home, never had extra insurance on them.

Transportation permits are currently issued with no fee for genuine race bikes, but they don't like giving them out for regular owners. This might be why DMV is just letting them register for now. SB227 in its final form was going to issue "Competition" stickers for extra fees on top of regular reg that would also not be valid for recreational use but thankfully that bill looks like it will die.

Just going to point out that when I get it, I plan to ride my new '22 YZ250 wherever the F I want, regardless of what sticker it has or does not have. Thank you, and goodnight.

It's fun when we call some people lazy thugs when they break the law to get what they want because the man is holding them down, but then we're superhero's that are definitely not lazy thugs when we break the law to get what we want because the man is holding us down. Two sides of the same coin and not a mirror to be found.

Don’t need registration to have insurance. Many states don’t even have titles for Mx bikes, snowmobiles and quads but you can still finance and insure them.

Beta is selling 2022 2 strokes with 2021 VIN numbers till the end of the year. KTM has put expansion chambers with catalytic converters on bikes in Europe before to meet emissions. Possibly could do it here.

You better look into your homeowners insurance “covering your dirt bikes”. I’ll let the insurance professionals speak up on this, but from what I know, anything with an engine, is not covered under your homeowners insurance plan.
I’ve had insurance on 2- dirt bikes for around $350 a year. It’s pretty cheap, but I have 4 different policies with Mercury Insurance. Home owners, automobile, street bikes, dirt bikes. Both motorcycle policies are through progressive insurance, which is under the same company as mercury.

This is true homeowners does not cover anything with a motor unfortunately you need a separate policy but they are fairly cheap I paid 150 for the year on my last 450

Feel for you guys out west that lost riding areas in your state. Cant really relate living in a state that has never had a single inch of public land for dirt bike use. Upside is we have nothing to lose since we never had anything.
