Was watching some old races on the down weekend and of course I had to watch Toronto 2014. I swear to god I'm more impressed every time I watch it. James just mows down the best guys in the world like it is nothing. I think this is the single greatest ride in a SX of all time. Change my mind.

Probably most Stewart rides :D Toronto was not even fun, Stew made other riders look like amateurs.
What makes races great for me are the emotion they give, for example Reed first win on a twotwo kawasaki, when everybody counted him out again, that gave me goosepumps.

Also Osborne Las Vegas race and passing Savatgy and seeing the emotions after the race, these are the moments that make me watch Supercross

Fuck Stewart was great, i don't think we ever see someone being so much faster than everybody else.

Toronto Stew was amazing. Emig and Windham (and Ralphy) were pretty blown away as they were calling the race.

Always worth a watch, and pretty amazing that it has nearly 4MM views since it was reposted less than a year ago:

I'd actually like to make the case for Indianapolis 2007. Reed gets the holeshot with Stew dead last going into the first corner, and Stew just eats him up. And there IS a big quad in that race.

Great call man! Holy shit! Ok so now we have the best race by younger Bubba and then the best by a more mature James. Find me another race by anybody even close to these two rides.

As much as I hated it at the time... 2001 Anaheim 3, for the drama alone. Also, I'm always a bit nostalgic. Best of all time? Probably not... Just the most memorable for me personally.

MC gets the holeshot while cutting down on RC, shuffling him back. Bailey talks about how Mcgrath does what he needs to do when the time comes, just like he has so many times before. After a couple back and forth races MC REALLY needed to assert himself as having the edge before going East in the series.

However, as we all know, RC just pushed himself forward the whole race... Inching forward every lap. Late in the race it became obvious to Coombs who said something along the lines of "RC is giving himself over to the bike... He's going to win or crash trying".

MC saw the times and knew RC was coming. He probably tried a little too hard and lost concentration... Jumped into the face of a triple, had to double. That was pretty much that. He had nothing left in the tank and as we know RC brought hardcore training to the sport.

The season ended for McGrath that night and a new era began.

After the race, MC was visibly shaken. No answers. He rode as a shell of himself for the next 11 races. It was only at Vegas where we saw some of the old fire... That last race of the season was probably the best McGrath rode all year, even though he lost. It was just another small mistake in a corner that really cost him, but he stayed within 2 seconds of RC for the entire remainder of the main. He vowed revenge on the podium, and he meant it, training hard in the off season. Probably too hard. It was truly the end.

Stewie in Toronto, for sure.

But honorable mention simply for the emotional impact- LaRocco taking the win at Indy '04 in his last race
in front of the hometown crowd.

Salt Lake 2017 is in the top 3
I watched that race a week or so ago. Eli was incredible. Really is a stark contrast to the Eli we have seen since last summer. When he's charging like that, there's no one else I'd rather watch ride a dirt bike.

Toronto 2014 was definitely Stewart’s greatest masterpiece IMO. He had so many over the years but that was so iconic

James has had some incredible rides, no doubt, but when it comes down to who-best-hand-shifted-in-the-air, that’s all Dunge, Brah.

Crazy to see 94 and 51 at the front the whole race. Now 7 years later neither one of them has won a championship. Supercross is a hard sport man.

Stew at Toronto or Zach at Vegas. Tough call.
Yeah, Stew put in an incredible ride for a race win in Toronto, but Zach's incredible ride was for a championship. Down in the first turn and out of it until the final 5 seconds of the race. Fuckin legendary.

If McGrath had won at St. Louis 1996, that would have been up there for best rides. Not just because it was for a perfect season, either. He came from a ways back and was all over Emig at the end.

As you might surmise from my avatar, I agree. The loopout alone would have sent most riders to the sidelines, and the visor blocking his peripheral vision would have forced others to ride conservatively. But RC wasn’t wired that way.

If anyone asks “Who is Ricky Carmichael?”, play that race.

Didn't Bradshaw have a race where he crashed and went from last to first, crashed again and dropped way back, then made his way back to the lead for the win? Pretty sure it was on a 125 in either '89 or '90, but I can't remember where.

even though it’s in a 125 that’s still one of my favorite races ever... still have it on VHS somewhere!

Osbornes take out of Savachy has to rate up there.
Surprised I had to scroll this far to see this comment.

I watched both races a few weeks ago (TO and 250 Vegas). Both impressive in there own way.

The pure gnarly speed and perfection Stew had that night compared to the rest of the worlds best riders was incredible. The whoop speed...mind blowing.

As far as “hecticness” Wacko 16 takes the cake on that in my opinion. How the entire night unfolded in that class was unbelievable. When I watch it to this day I still can’t believe he can pull it off even though I know the end result.

The 2007 Indy race that visser62 mentioned and I posted the video of is mind bending. You'd swear to god they sped up the video when James blitzes the whoops except that there are other riders going normal speed. He passes Tim Ferry like Timmy was dragging an anchor lol!

After rewatching Stew in his prime and later years makes me think how bad the AMA fucked him and all of us as fans. The man didn’t deserve to have his career ended like that after CHANGING the game for years to come!

Stew 2014 toronto was frustrating because they lost timing and scoring right at the get go and it wasn't till mid race that I think emig figured out james was ripping thru the field. I have watched that race 40 times since it went down ...at least. Never gets old. But Osborn cleaning out savatchie was as epic. God damnit, now I gotta go watch all these races again!!!! Haha. And I agree, stews penalty did more harm then good. Fucked the fans out of dozens of races with stewart still in his prime.

The thing that strikes me about Toronto is that James looked like he had more in the tank. He looked effortless. Bam and Kroc were riding their balls off and James pulled up rolled his window down and asked them which way to the finish line dudes? Zach's ride may have been the best 125/Lights'250 win ever for sure but I'll never understand how Joey let it happen? And by that I don't mean getting caught but I mean getting blasted like that. I remember thinking wtf Joey, you didn't see that mad man tracking you down?

Hannah winning an sx main on a stock Yamaha.
Bob had a come from last place win (or damn near last place) in his reign of terror at the Pontiac Silverdome back in the day.
