The term may not be used within the "Black community" (another term I dislike, as if there's a "White community") but it is used to group or segregate all Blacks into one group on forms and applications as well as general speech.
Let's not forget that due to pressure and political correctness, TV/Media has been arm-twisted into using this term for all Blacks or risk being label "insensitive" or "racist," regardless of nationality of the Black person being referred to.
I think another issue, and one I have also mentioned in the past, is how the name or terminology used to describe or segregate Blacks has changed over the years from Negro, to Blacks, to Afro-American, to now African-American...and that's just a couple examples. One has to admit it creates some confusion and just adds to the issue.[/quote:3nogk4nt]

Dave, there is always a spot for "Other" on every form in this country.
If TV doesn't distinguish between African-Americans and people from Africa THEY aren't very good journalist. Where I live to do make that difference clear when reporting news.
Dave the point is that it shouldn't matter what term we use to refer to ourselves, you know who we are talking about (black people that were born in America). Hey, you learned something new today.
Also, in terms of the African-American community...................maybe you'll just never get it, but every minority group in this country has cultural ideas that are different than the mainstream (majority - white people in America), so trust me when i say that just like there is a "Black community" there sure as hell is also an Asian community and Hispanic community, no matter how much you don't get it.
As for the others like Huck and bm121 or whatever his sign-on is, stop being so simple minded.

P,
Are you saying that I am simple minded because I believe in what MLK said (judge people by the contents of their character not the color of their skin)? Too bad this country isn't more "simple minded."

He sure wouldn't want the kids around NE/SE Washington DC judged by their character.

that's what i said.
About time this thread was back on topic.
[quote:3dyjr2qi]Beeker: Well, it’s really difficult because we know the full potential of James Stewart—when he’s 100 percent he’s unbeatable.[/quote:3dyjr2qi]
Unbeatable? I seem to remember RC handing it to Stewart on a number of occasions when Stewart was on equal machinery, and feeling 100%.
Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Haiti, Seirre Leone, Ghana, Niger, Egypt, Nigeria etc
And none of them refer to themselves as African American. When asked they say they are Ghanan, or Nigerian, or Cuban etc.
Once they have become a US citizen they refer to themselves as either American. But they are from their respected countries. Of the 53 countries that make up the Continent of Africa.
This is useless to even try to explain things to P anymore.
I am staying out of this topic now. I said nothing derogatory and only addressed grant as African American, of which he is. Because he did state in an interview, (which i dont feel like looking for) that is holds dual citizenship.[/quote:19q76amp]
You just don't get the difference between nationality and race do you.

I hope that you don't get out of that statement that we shouldn't recognize different heritages and cultures??? Being able to do that has nothing to do with being fair in society and accepting people for who they are.
Late.

Excuse me?
"liar?"
"Quitter?"
Stewart is not a liar or a quitter. I don't know how you came up with that assumption. It seems to me that you believe everything you read on the internet, and to think he quits....are you serious?
Post a reply to: Great Interview with Stewart!
