i think it is a shame that a society that should be color blind has to apply labels to people.

man and woman should suffice.

I personally think that if things were that simple life would be very boring. I believe that our differences are what make life interesting. That's just me though.

There you go...kindly explain that to P[/quote:869vaoob]

He is Black, he is also African-American. Personally, I don't see why you guys are so up in arms about the term.

I prefer the term "Motocrosser" and I'll bet James would too. P you couldn't have things simple because then you'd have no one to fight with. I would also assume that just like me James is an American period.

Dude, why is it so offensive that James is referred to as African-American??? I don't get that with you guys. Please explain that to me.

Also, just so you know I AM NOT THE ONE THAT BROUGHT UP HIS RACE IN THIS THREAD. Go back and review the post.

[u:3oivvcrp][b:3oivvcrp]Either way, I think it's a shame that you guys run from race like having a sport made up of people of different races is a bad thing.[/b:3oivvcrp][/u:3oivvcrp] :?

Again, why is it such a problem to you guys???

I think all men are created equal........... it's how we're raised that separates us through life.
Im not telling you how to refer to yourself. Im just telling you James in not from Africa. He was born in Florida, which is in America.[/quote:1olz4aa9]

We all know that James isn't African. Again, the term African-American is not used to refer to people that were born in Africa and then came to America.

Do a little research on the term before you start trying to debate it.

I don't think anyone thinks racial diversity in the sport is a bad thing. At some point you just have to call yourself an American. I am willing to bet you were not born in the continent of Africa, and there is a really good chance your parents were not born there either. I have ancestors from Europe but I don't go around calling myself a euro-american. It's just lame. I haven't forgotten my herritage, but I don't need to tag on a verbal reminder of where my ancestors came from.

What I don't get is why some of you believe that recognizing different races has to be something that divides us??? Women motocrossers sometimes get press because they are women, but I don't hear you guys bitching about that.

Does anyone here know any Black folks that are from Africa? They are so completely different than the majority of Black Americans it's ridiculous. They speak English way better for one thing, and are far more respectful in their demeanor.

Yes..I did not say it had anything to do with be Black or White P.

The TERM African American can be interpreted several ways. I use it to recognize where a person grew up or lives. You obviously use it as something else.

Thats fine, to each their own.

You need to get past all that everyone is trying to hold me down shit.

Not all Black people came over here on the boat. Just like not all White people came over here on the boat from Europe.

As long as there is still BET tv, and the NAACP and other organizations that separate themselves based on the color of ones skin there will always be disagreement.

As long as there are laws for affirmative action etc, there will be no true equality.

It's simple... a person either CAN do a job, or they CANT do a job.

Job applications need to stop asking a person to identify themselves as a certain race/religion. That has nothing to do with whether a person can do a job or not.

Checking a box automatically implies difference. If we are all equal, then why the box? Why not just age, sex, qualifications?[/quote:hb1i71dp]

Dude, you NEVER hear a person that was born in Africa and came to America refer to themselves as African-American, never. It's also very disrespectful that you refuse to recognize the commonly used meaning of the term.

Like I said, research the term...........which you apparently haven't done.

All I can say is that you are very ignorant on this topic, very ignorant.

If race is a dividing factor for you then that is your problem. Next, you'll probably want to stop calling women, women because the word "men" is part of the spelling.

Except Langston isn't American, and I doubt Albertyn is either.

Nice try though Scott.

Langston is a permanent resident. Not a citizen.[/quote:1nexyawk]

He holds dual citizenships actually. Thanks very much for playing. He stated this himself in a magazine.

But using your logic, James isn't African either....[/quote:1nexyawk]

Shut the F up you moron. African American is the term most people use for "black". You know that (although it wouldn't surprise me if you didn't). Don't you ever get tire of coming on here and making yourself out to be a jackass? Please tell me you do it on purpose so I don't have to sleep at night knowing that there are people out there as dumb as you that are actually allowed to use computers. Now get off the computer and pay attention to the math lesson.......it's almost recess, jackass.

Thats right P. They refer to themselves as American once they become citizens. Unlike the blacks in this country.

The black experience in America is completely different than growing up in Africa. You have to look at history and the history behind the word to understand why it is used.

P[/quote:hjwpo8pn]I don't care why it is used. Hell, I don't care about what blacks have been through. I care about paying my mortgage. I care about raising my kids to be productive members of society. I don't care who killed Kennedy anymore than I care who killed MLK. It is the past, let it die. Worry about making the future better instead of dwelling on the past.
