I have a 2020 kx250, been sitting on the stand with no action for a few weeks and while I’m waiting on some other things I decided to take it apart and grease the axles, linkage and swingarm pivot, as well as the now frozen steering stem bearings.

Now I always figured grease was grease, but when I took my front wheel off I had to drive the axle out cause it was dry as a bone. Thing is, I wire brushed it and greased the hell out of it the last time I put my front wheel on. Haven’t rode it since then, like I said just sitting on the stand.

What kind of grease should I be using, obviously what I was using sucks. And should I grease or anti seize the axles and pivot bolt?

Side note : maybe this is redneck as hell but has anyone ever added grease zerks on moto bikes?

I’ve always used maxima grease and I’ll take it apart after 40 hours and it’s still fine

Yep Maxima Waterproof grease. Every time I take my linkage or steering apart it looks great.

Maxima waterproof for wheels and stem.

Swingarm, linkage, and shock bearings get molybdenum disulfide grease (Yamalube brand).

Is it normal for water to get in the stem bearings? From power washing surely. The top was fine, bottom was froze. Couldn’t get the bearing off to pack it correctly, assuming it’s pressed on the stem

Mercury Marine lower unit grease. Made specifically for stern drive lower units. A powerwasher is no use against this stuff.

This is some good stuff.
The yamalube Molly lube mentioned above is great for those areas. If you are a person that will grease it at least twice a year or don't put a lot of hour of hours on your bike any of the grease mentioned will work. You can even go to auto zone and grab the Lucas oil brand it works well. I have Wal-Mart brand in my bike right now and everything's looked great when i tore apart to rebuild the bike. Wheel stem Bearings, Chassis and suspension.

Friction parts I use silkolene red in the tub, static parts I’ll use anti seize. Axles are unsealed and any grease will dry out over time. Antiseize dries out but still prevents binding.

This video is very very informative. I think the red and tacky is good but prefer to use belray. Regardless it does make a case that there’s good and better when it comes to grease.

The Maxima holds up better in the bearings than the Bel-Ray

Not finding this stuff. Merc's website only shows 90wt gear oil, not seeing a lower unit grease from them elsewhere either.

Bel Ray waterproof on the bearings and seals. I also put a thin layer of anti-seize on the bolts

I use a combo I got from a friend that is a long time Team Green Tech.

Bel Ray Waterproof grease, White Lithium grease, and Anti-seize.

Equal parts, it comes out dark black. Very resistant to pressure washing and my bearing look like new every time I re-grease. Be forewarned though, it is a bitch to get out from under your fingernails and clothes.

Yes there is a company that makes a zerk swingarm pivot. Steel horse innovations. And I have seen people put zerks on linkages.

Sometime back I got a grease called Mil-Spec. I think it was branded as such. Stuff is gnarly.
Sort of an amber color.
